Hand, foot & mouth during pregnancy

My daughter got r while I was pregnant with my last. My ob said it was nothing to be concerned about and also the likely hood of you even getting it is so low.

It’s going around here, and I overheard some other moms mentioning “thieves oil” helped. We’ve never had HFM, and I don’t know what thieve’s oil is, but something to look into if kiddo gets it.

My son had it while I was pregnant and it didn't affect me. I think you will be fine.

Daughter had it last week and it did not affect me. I think our adult immune systems are better able to fight it.

It could be nothing serious. However, it's best to take her to the doctor if she has any symptoms, of HF&M or Fifths disease. Fifths disease can be dangerous if YOU catch it while pregnant. They might just have to induce you of baby develops anemia.

It's really not that big of a deal! Just watch her fever..

When my son had it, his pediatrician said not to worry unless you are close to delivering. It's worth mentioning to your OB just so you have all the info.

To add some encouragement, my son had one of the worst cases of HFM and I did not get it.

I think my 12 year old may have it, I took her to the docs & doctor didn’t think so, my 9 year old doesn’t have any if the same symptoms. I insisted on a blood test though, as I’m scheduled for a c-section in 4 days & need to know if I should keep my 12 year old away from baby!

I got it from my son a few years ago. Adults do get it. It’s only dangerous if you have it when delivering. I’ve been exposed to it when pregnant as well. Usually they have a fever for a day or 2, then the spots start popping up. Check her mouth for spots. Wash your hands often. We used thieves oil like the PP said and I do think it helped it heal faster!

Yea my youngest had it a few weeks back my Dr told me not to worry that adults can't catch it but I know that is rubbish! Both my children also had chicken pox the start of my pregnancy and I was fine. xx

I'm not due until the 22nd so if she does have it and I get it there's some time yet... I'll definitely talk to my doctor about it on Tuesday. I read it can be unsafe in late pregnancy so I'm just paranoid now.

I'm a toddler teacher and have seen many cases of hand foot and mouth. The only time I am aware of a parent contracting HFM was when the child slept in the same bed with the parent. I wouldn't worry but be careful.
