Safe to put lotion on boobs?

Safe to put lotion on boobs?

From the very beginning of pregnancy I've been applying cerave lotion to my boobs and belly after showering each day in hopes of keeping skin moisturized and preventing stretch marks. I recently read that if you're washing your boobs/nipples with soap and water to stop at this point which got me wondering if it's still okay to be putting lotion on them? And after baby arrives is it safe to put any lotion on them at all if breastfeeding?

I think it said washing with soap and water dries the skin which is why it suggested stopping at least a month before baby is due. But you guys had some great suggestions - thank you! I especially like the idea of coconut oil. So that could be used on the nipples even when breastfeeding, right?

At one of the classes I took I was told by the instructor/nurse to avoid washing and putting lotion on your nipples because of the oils they naturally secrete. I guess lotion being worse since it can clog the pores and cause backups. Since then I've lotioned my breasts but avoided my nipples. They actually seem to be in better shape since then, not sure if it's coincidence or not!

Coconut oil is really great for this. If you choose to nurse you won't have to wash it off and you'll keep yourself moisturized.

It's fine to wash and Lotion your boobs :)

I think their concern is drying out your nipple prematurely but your lotioning so I think youyou're fine. :) once the baby starts nursing she/he may not like the taste or texture so you might want to switch to nipple cream

I put lotion on my boobs but don't put it on my nipples. I remember how painful nursing was in the beginning with my son and I don't want my nipples to get used to the pampering lol. I would still use the lotion on your boobs after baby is born to prevent stretch marks for when you milk come in (that's when I got most of mine on my boob!!). Just avoid the nipple so baby isn't eating any of it (if you're planning to breastfeed).
