My son had a mild case of flat head, once he started crawling and sitting upright, he was fine! Dr wasn't concerned. Just do a lot of tummy time, baby wearing during the day

I think this was a lesson to myself that I should stop reading all of the 1 star reviews on Amazon! That's where this seed of rock'n'play = flat head was planted. Very thankful for having this group to set me straight :)

My son spent most of his time in a rock n play when I was doing house work, cooking, showering, and anything like that until he wouldn't stay in it anymore. That thing was a life saver for me and his head is and always has been perfectly round lol. I've never known anyone who's baby got flat head from a rock n play, usually they got it from spending too much time flat on their back &I not being held enough.

I used one for my dd and she slept with her head facing one side. She started to get a flat spot but I used a special pillow for carseats and strollers that had a hole in the center to help prevent flat spots. She didn't spend a lot of time laying down either, just when she was asleep, she had a heavy head I think lol. But I plan on doing that with this lo too

We used a rock n play for our son and it was our life saver! His head is perfectly round lol we bought a new one for baby girl this time and will be using it religiously hahaha its the best thing we've ever purchased for our kids! Besides the swing and pack n play

As long as you are balancing time on his/her head and tummy time off the head your baby should be fine. My son had a helmet due to his in utero issues, I cried a lot about it, but it helped him and it was short term. Good news it's either avoidable or fixable--- there are way more scary things to worry about that aren't fixable than flat head. Good luck!!

Your child can get a flat head from laying them anywhere for too long, it's not just a rock and play. I made sure I was holding my son and walking him around often or using my baby carrier throughout the day. And lots and lots of tummy-time! He never had any issues with his head not developing right. :) you just gotta pay close attention and use your instincts.

I had my last 2 sleep all if their nights and naps in the rock n play. No flat heads at all. Your baby can get a flat head for lots of reasons and from lots of different baby gear.

When you don't ensure baby has their head turned to both sides evenly and gets sufficient tummy time you run the risk of flat head syndrome. My friend's little girl had it really bad, or at least I felt so, as did my daughter's cousin and my nephew, because they were always in a bouncer pointed at the TV at the same angle. Two of them crawled late (my nephew is 10 months and only just commando crawling). None required helmets but it was very obvious flat spots to me. Babywearing also aids in preventing it as well.

Like a lot of others have said its about moving your baby. I highly recommend the rock n play. It is an awesome seat to have. Have you looked at the Rock n play auto? I've had one for all 4 of my kids and wouldn't do without it. Investing in two new ones for my twins.

We never used a pack and play. My daughter was born with plagiocephaly. We noticed right away her face was misaligned one eye was bigger than the other ect. The doctor said it was the because of the way she was laying inside my stomach. At 6 or so months we ended up having her wear a helmet and in 9 weeks her head was perfectly round. It's not always a pack and play problem or from not being held enough I hate when people assume that that is the only reason.

My son slept in his rock & play until he was 4 months old and he has a nice beautiful head.. That thing was my sanity because he had reflux and would only sleep if was slight elevated.. I would definitely keep it on your registry.. During the day when he was awake we would do tummy time or I would hold him as much as possible I think they key to avoiding flat head is making sure they are not laying in the same position for an extended amount of hours

Balance back time with tummy time and you won't have to worry about flat headed issues so much. Its the matter that a lot of babies prefer one side over another and if their neck isn't strong enough to rotate sides then its really up to us as parents to do it for them and make sure to not have them laying that way too much. Don't worry mama, I never had an issue with our bouncer or rock n play cause I made sure to rotate and balance with tummy time. Totally doable!

Flat head syndrome only will happen when babies are left on ANY surface too long. This includes cribs!

I think there's something to be said about parents blaming products instead of their lack of interaction with their child ?

Head flatness is caused by sleeping baby in one position with out rotating them. Meaning with my kids one night their head was one way, the next night the next direction. I'm on kid number 4 and seriously sounds weird but my babies are always complimented on their beautiful circular heads.lol I'd imagine if you left them in the rock and play all night without moving them that yah it's probably cause a flat spot like keeping them in anything dog long periods would :)

It's not the rock in play that classes flat head , it's the laying on their back :) so get the rock in play, just fit in some tummy time. I don't know why some babies get it and some don't. I'm nannying a 5 month old who had bad flat head and will need a helmet. But he also struggles with severe lack of muscle tone and still cannot hold up his head.

I never used a rock and play, but my son did have a flat spot on his head, and did need a helmet to correct it. It has to do with tightness or short muscles in the neck that restrict movement of the head. If the neck isn't strong enough to turn the opposite direction, a flat spot occurs and gets worse over time because the bigger the flat area becomes, the more neck strength it takes to get off the afflicted side.

I had a rock n play laid my son in it all the time be loved Jr, no flat head syndrome my sis also used it and her baby is just fine
