Giving a newborn a pacifier ?

I never gave a pacifier to both my kids. I breastfed on demand and that was enough sucking time I guess lol. Plus I see a lot of kids up to 3 years old still sucking on a pacifier and that is just wrong

My princess is 9 months now. We offered a pacifier at 3 months after breastfeeding was perfectly established. She used it for sleep and in the car. Now the only time she uses it is when she naps when my mom watches her while I work. She'll chew on it (usually backwards) when we give it to her. It didn't affect feeding at all. Still nurses like a champ

In the hospital I gave her a pacifier, and now at home we barley use it. I'd say only when we are out or to help her sleep because she also finds comfort in sleep sucking or just laying on my breast lol. It's perfectly fine

A baby is smart. They realize there is nothing in them so they stop wanting them. It's up to you. You can use udder cream for the soreness but as far as sucking on everything. They root. When looking for a boob. So try a pacifier and eventually he will not want it.

Thanks ladies. I think I'm gonna try it in a couple of days and just use it for sleep. He's constantly trying to suck on something during sleep and usually ends up sucking on his blanket he's swaddled in.

My son was given one at the hospital and had one all of the time. He gave it up at the one year mark by himself. I never had any issues with breastfeeding and the pacifier.
