I would like to try a midwife this time if I can it's my third child and I had two previous C-sections which I feel like perhaps were unnecessary or avoidable and a lot of complications came from them and I'd like to try and have a natural birth and the doctors are very closed off to that option for me

Blue chocolate, she asked for peoples opinions and I gave her my decision with the reasoning behind it. You can give your decision/opinion too without trying to bring other people's choices down and specifically pointing out what you don't like about them. Thanks

I had a midwife with my first. That I saw regularly. Only saw a dr if I needed. This time will have a midwife the same midwife that delivered my first. My first was born early and my midwife was going on vacation so lol.

But the one that delivered my first son was amazing. I loved/love her.

I have seen others and they have been good and some I wasn't to fond of.

I think it just depends on what you want.

Their is always a dr on call as well (at least where I go) so if their is an issue and need a dr they are their to assist. I don't think midwives can do c sections but I'm not sure.

I tried to get a midwife but there weren't any spots open for me. I ended up getting a horrible ob and demanded I be reassigned to another. This second ob is great.

My SIL has a midwife. Her appt are usually like an hour and very detailed. They talk about everything and she sees one of the 3 on the call team. (My ob are about 10 minutes unless I have a series of questions) As long as they are open to a variety of pain treatment options (if that's what you want) and medical intervention then you should be fine. Both are great options.

I have a midwife, I have had several appointments with a team of three, one of them will be delivering our baby. I am so glad we went with the midwives any questions I have they always call me back within 30 mins. If you are interested in natural birth I recommend reading Ina may's guide to childbirth, the book really helped put my mind at ease and hubby's too :) I have an ePub version, if you want it pm me and I don't mind sending it.

I really want to have a natural birth and my friends have told me how wonderful it was to have a midwife.. And they also helped them up to 6 weeks after birth with breastfeeding and other things

Doctors always choose doctors, nurses always prefer nurses.

Generally, it comes down to style. Midwives are known to have a much lower rate of episiotomies and less overall intervention.

Honestly, if a midwife did not refer to a doctor after identification of a problem, they are putting their license on a line. My entire nursing unit is run by anesthesia and surgical docs/NPs. They are NEVER late to get a doc onbaord. So he must have some bad midwives. Also, sorry, but he's still jist a resident.

I chose an OB. My hubby is an a resident doctor in anaesthesiology and mentioned to me that sometimes midwives are really independent even when they need help and something is going wrong, so they wait too long to call an ob when one is seriously needed. For the delivery stage, it is safer I would say since an OB has a lot more training for complicated situations if they arise. My friend chose an OB and also worked with a doula so that she had someone with different type of training too and a more natural perspective. She said it was a good combo. I may do this too as I have a friend that is a doula.
