Should I Try IVF Again Now or Wait? Seeking Advice on Frozen Sperm

Need your positive thoughts

ladies, I need your help making a decision. My husband had a kidney transplant a month ago. He’s on medication that causes birth defects, which means we can’t use his sperm for 5-6 months (2 months on the meds + 3 months for it to leave his system). Now, I just came out of my first and failed IVF cycle, producing just one blastocyst that didn’t stick ? (out of 11 eggs retrieved). I was testing on the day he was in surgery. I need to get back in and try again with our frozen sperm, but the doctor thinks waiting 6 months and trying naturally might be an idea. I truly don’t see any point in trying naturally, as I’ve been looking at bfn’s for 6 years. Also at 39, my chances are declining. Shall I go for another ivf cycle now, using DH’s frozen sperm? Is frozen sperm just as good as fresh, or am I wasting my money? Any success stories with frozen sperm? I can’t wait 6 months ... it’s so hard waiting at all when you’ve been desperate for your rainbow baby for years and years ?

I’m going to go against the grain and say I would wait. The frozen sperm would not deter me, but my husband’s opinion would. In one of your comments you mentioned him wanting to wait. Knowing he has been through a major surgery, i wouldn’t go against my husband’s wishes.

And my husband is doing great, it’s just the medication he’s on that’s messing him up a bit.

Thank you so much for your warm and positive thoughts. I really needed the boost. Knowing that you ladies would do the same makes me feel I’m not alone ❤️

If it is an IVF cycle frozen sperm really isn’t different. It only has an effect in an IUI cycle because it doesn’t live as long or move as quickly as fresh sperm. But frozen sperm clearly works. I am pregnant using his frozen sperm for an IUI:)

I understand not wanting wait. What does hubby think about it all? I hope he is healing up well! That’s a major surgery!

My doctor said frozen is just as good as fresh. I’m with you don’t waste anymore time! Happy to hear you are not giving up. Also, very sorry to hear about your husband. I pray for a healthy recovery and a successful ivf for you and your family:)) Stay strong and positive!

I agree, no time like the present! Who knows what’ll happen in 6 months.

I would not wait. I am 40 and if I was faced with your situation a year ago, I would go forward with the frozen. think of all the women who need donor sperm. That's frozen. And my first dr office had us have a back up frozen due to dh's sperm issues. If we needed it, we would have gladly used it.

@ExpectingGreatness we have two frozen samples that were taken before our first ivf for that purpose. They’re not great quality though, as our issue is male infertility. DH had bad kidneys his whole life. But they can use the frozen sperm, they only need a few!

Sorry you're going through this ! Frozen sperm is just as good . In fact , they usually have the male freeze a sample before IVF in case the he is unable to get a sample day of retrieval. Then they will use that so I'm sure it's just as good. Personally, I would not wait either . Wishing you the best !!

I’m totally for ivf with Icsi right away. I think I just want to hear you brave ladies say the same. I feel so alone in making the decision, as my husband also thinks we should wait 6 months.

It's so difficult to say, but i think if i was in your situation, i would want to try again with ivf of icsi. Good luck and my best wishes. Xx

If you are looking at doing another round with IVF, frozen sperm is just as good as fresh, especially if you use ICSI.

And I’m with you; I wouldn’t wait either. We hit the 30s and time is working against us. If you experienced years of negatives naturally, I wouldn’t leave it up to chance either. Far too emotional of a roller coaster for me.

Good luck!!!! I’m so sorry to hear the struggle is still there, and I hope your husband gets well soon too!
