No free breastpump for me ?
Apparently my insurance policy was grandfathered in to not having to provide free breast pumps. At least that's what Aeroflow told me. I'm gonna check with edge park too. And I have to pay $700 for my trip to L and D. Not happy.
My insurance just started covering breast pumps (tricare) and there are so many angry women who had to pay out of pocket before this change. Luckily most women can get help from lactation consultants or WIC and other such organizations. Some states have funds you can look for that supply them for mothers in need.
I agree renting is helpful but does get expensive. It's better to just start saving now a little every month and then buy one online. With my firs my insurance covered a pump but the hospital was out of them at the time so I had to rent. It was $37 for two weeks. Hospital grade of course is more expensive but boy did it pump nice and strong.
I have a Medela I love but I fear the motor could be going since I used it so much with my last one. I'm ordering a spectra this time just incase I again have latching issues.
Thanks ladies for all the good ideas! I'm going to look online. There are some good deals out there. I get insurance through my employer so I can't really switch plans or it will be a lot more expensive. Luckily all my prenatal visits are covered 100% and it will only cost me $300 to actually deliver the baby. So I shouldn't complain. It could be a lot worse!
That does stink. I work in insurance and that is true if your plan still has a grandfathered status they don't have to follow all the rules of the affordable care act. With my first my ins didn't cover one either. I ended finding a brand new on someone was selling for half the cost.
OP I feel your pain on grandfathered in plans. Ours is and doesn't cover preventative appointments or contraception???. I haven't even dared ask about a pump. But I still have mine from my son 2 years ago that should still work.
I agree with other posters, check around you should be able to find one for a reasonable price or free.
Consider changing your insurance plan. Open enrollment will start soon, and you will be able to switch plans at the beginning of the year. I believe Obamacare mandates coverage for breast pumps. Since baby's due in Jan, it could be perfect timing. Just make sure your doctor and hospital are still covered under any plan.
I would get a hygeia enjoye on ebay. I pumped for 20 month with my son while working full time and the last 4 months I also had a part time job and a long commute. The ameda was horrible for me. That is what my insurance covers. When my hygeia needed to be serviced (user error the motor was fine) I got 1.5 to 2.5 less ounces per session using the ameda. That adds up when your kid drinks 4 to 5 ounces every 4 hours (by that time he was also on solids). Never again. I plan on buying a hygeia off eBay to have as a backup.
I love my Ameda Purely Yours breast pump... I bought one in 2011 when my son was born, and over the years friends have borrowed it. I will be using again when I have my baby girl in January! I was going to hire one, but for the sake of owning one and being able to pump and feed long for abit longer than if I had just hired one short term, it worked out more beneficial
Do you have any friends, family members or coworkers who have breastfed that might be willing to give/ lend you their pump ?? My insurance company doesn't cover breast pumps either. I'm part of a MOPS group at church and I asked if anyone had a pump they were willing to part with. One of the moms, who just had her third baby, gave me a Medela pump in style. She got a new breast pump with each of her pregnancies so she didn't need it, obviously. I just bought a new kit for it for hygienic purposes. Also, look online! Facebook, community garage sale pages, Craigslist.... Places like that. Don't settle when it comes to breast pumps!!! There are a lot of crappy pumps and you can't return them for health and hygiene purposes. I always recommend Medela! Always look for dual electric pumps! I hope you are able to find one! ??
I called my insurance and they said I should go to edge park but the lady didn't even seem like she was looking anything up. So if this doesn't work out I'll call her back. I can't get WIC. I just didn't even realize that there were some plans that are grandfathered.
Don't always rely on WIC. I asked them when I was there last. And they won't just give you one. First you have to have your child. And there has to be a reason you need one....them not latching...you taking a temporary medication that you can't breast feed. I asked them what if I was going back to work and she said that can't be the only reason.
The lady I spoke to was kind of a batch. I hope you do get one though, and they work for you.
I guess sharing my personal info on here means having it used against me in a personal disagreement yes I was raped and no you have no right to use my daughter against me as a personal jab

Hey
Saw this in my other parent group. Just order one for my daughter for free. I have the Minnie mouse, swan lake, and Hampton rose.
So what during pregnancy can't you have or do that you are really looking forward to having the ability to have it?
I can't wait to have beer again and to free fall onto my bed on my belly.
I just messaged you back. ?
