School snacks

I need ideas for non dairy school snacks for my 6 year old and (almost) 3 year old. We have recently removed dairy from our diet, so their usual snacks of string cheese or Greek yogurt are out. I give them unsweetened apple sauce, fruit and pretzels usually, but they’ve both mentioned being bored with that. Their school is a nut free zone, so those are out also. Any ideas?

Granola bars, good fish, popcorn (she loves pirates booty!), they have those to-go sized veggie dip and snack sized pouches of carrots, celery, etc.

I pack my son fig bars, chia pouches, fruit, carrots, or granola bars.

Pepperoni and crackers. Humus and crackers or veggie sticks. Seeds (sunflower w out shell or pumpkin) - idk if that's considered a nut now a days. Jello. Dried fruit chips. DIY yogurt parfait- let them choose what they want in their yogurt (Greek or dairy free). Make a Chia snack ( I used to use chia soaked in water overnight(something like 3T of chia to a cup or so of water- u can always add more if too thick) and add fruit like watermelon and raspberries.. eat with a spoon. Fun texture and super healthy for you). Hard boiled egg (peeled and sliced). Veggies with Greek yogurt DIP. Banana or apples sliced with chocolate drizzled on it (melt some morsels).

I haven’t asked about seed butters, wishing. I’ll have to ask. My son is ok with seeds, but I don’t know about the other little boy.

Can’t wait to see the recipe, rowdy!

Can you do sunflower seed “peanut butter” or are those off limits as well?

We make these banana oat bars. Super easy and the kids like them. I will have to remember the recipe. My dd has been asking for them so I will make them and post them in the plant based group. They do have chocolate chips, but I am going to buy the vegan kind for the next batch.

Ok, you can def take any recipe and sub out “almond milk” with soy? I’m pretty sure all of the recipes I posted still work for the limitations.

Aidan has severe tree nut allergies and Harper has dairy intolerance, so I use soy milk for baking anyway.

There is a boy in Harper’s class who cannot even touch nuts without having anaphylactic symptoms, so the school became very strict with the nut rules. Which I completely understand, it just limits my kids already allergy restricted diets, so I’m having to be creative.

Question: a nut free zone.... how about almond milk in a recipe???

My son is lactose intolerant and is in 1st grade. It's been a struggle to come up with different dairy free things every day to send in, so I'm following! But some common things I send in are fresh fruit, veggie sticks, pretzels with hummus, popcorn, goldfish, cheese its, tortilla chips with little individual guacamole or fresh salsa, or granola bars.

No one in my family is a fan of cheese alternatives unfortunately. I haven’t tried the coconut yogurt with them...maybe I’ll give that a shot. Thanks!

You can make some vegan oat bars or homemade granola.

Have you tried any of the cheese alternatives for cheese and crackers? Or sunbutter and crackers? They make coconut milk yogurt too!

Thanks, ladies.

It is hard, iris! I didn’t realize how much dairy we actually consumed until we stopped!

Fruit snacks, pop tarts, cheez-its, cereal, popcorn, potato crisps.

My son's school sent home a 3 page letter of all the snacks they could bring. My 1st graders class is also nut free.

I usually give him crackers, fruits, raisins, and cereal. It’s so hard!

I’m on week 3 of eating strictly Vegan and it has been challenging to say the least.

Question: 16 year old dating an q8 year old? Thoughts??

My opinion is hell no. 16 year old is still a kid. Kids now a days want to be grown so bad and be in adult relationships and situations. I know when my daughters are 16 and they tell me they are dating an 18 year old. I will surely flip my lid.

ameliasmomma If something were to happen to her, the boyfriend would be tried as an adult
shauna.johnson I wasn’t the best daughter growing up, but my parents had no clue. I was 13 talking

They don't teach cursive in school anymore? Is this true? My 10 year old niece and 7 year old nephew were mesmerized by me writing in cursive and my brother said it isn't taught anymore because it's considered unnecessary. I guess I'm getting old, but I find that kind of sad.

They stop doing it yrs ago , when my girl were in elementary, I was upset ,
pookiedoo I'll be teaching mine, too. I firmly believe it's possible to advance technologically without completely discarding useful
They were teaching my son and he's 10 a year or two back in California
