Weirdest interview ever! (Sort of a follow up to yesterday's post)
I had my follow up interview for a job that I initially interviewed for a week ago. I was led to believe (or perhaps assumed) that this interview was with the other members of the department I would be joining. Boy, was I ever wrong! Yesterday's interview was with the same people I interviewed with a week ago AND 3 other candidates for the position!
Thanks, amore! I talked with the recruiter who set up the initial interview and he is going to get some feedback for me.
I've done two group interviews. Neither of them I knew in advance it was a group interview. I think it's because they want to see how you interact with strangers. In both situations I ended up getting the job so don't feel discouraged by being called to one. Good luck! Hope you hear from them soon!
Thanks for asking your friend. That gives me some reassurance. I'll just keep crossing my fingers and keep looking at other opportunities in the meantime.
A good friend of mine does group interviews. I asked her about your situation- going to a second interview and it's others first interview.
She said it's possible that they really liked you but something else popped up in someone else's resume that caught their attention.
In other words, your mom is right. They want to solidify their choice by putting you with a group of others.
There is only one position open.
I thought maybe that was the purpose, H, I just thought it was strange for a second interview-a first I could understand so you could weed out your candidates faster, but for it to be my second and their first just seemed odd. My mom thought maybe they were just solidifying their interest in me by putting me side by side with other personalities/styles. Hopefully, she's right.
They told me at my initial interview that they wanted me to come back for the second step of the process, so i think it was intentional. It was just such an odd experience. And we were all so different in personality that I couldn't figure out what they were looking for.
I've heard of initial first interviews in a group setting but never a second. Then again, in all the years working in a professional environment, I've never heard of group interviews. I'd give it a week, then call and see what's up. I wonder if they messed up and had you come in for the group interview, not remembering that you did your initial interview already.
I HAVE been through an interview process that took 3 separate visits. It was insane and annoying, but I really wanted the job!
Maybe. Did you know yours was a group interview before it happened? I felt blindsided by the whole thing, but then I thought maybe that was their intention-to see how we handle ourselves in an awkward or unexpected situation.
