HSG showed one tube!

So did my HSG to determine if my tubes were open and we only saw the left side. My dr seemed to think it wasn't necessarily blocked, but that the dye went into a "free flow." Apparently that's when the dye goes in the fastest opening and creates a flow. He said he's seen it many times and the only way to test the other side would be to do a surgery! Ugh...I wish I would e seen the right side. He said he's comfortable with going forward with the IUI, but I'm feeling discouraged. Anybody have any insight on this?

I don't think you'd need a surgery; that's very extreme just to see the tubes! I'm a radiographer and we do lots of HSG's and never have we only seen one tube. You should always visualise the other tube? Even if there were blockages. Even if the dye went into one tube; the doctor can use more dye as it doesn't do any harm. It's absorbed into the body afterwards. What I would suggest is to have a hycosy? It's very similar to a HSG, except that it doesn't use x-Ray (so no radiation dose) and can see blockages etc. It's basically an internal ultrasound scan, whereby the doctor also injects dye to visualise the Fallopian tubes. I've had my fair share of doctors who sometimes don't know what they are talking about. ? Not to discourage you, but you definitely should seek a second opinion! Good luck

So he thinks the right side is blocked?

Ok I re-read.

I remember the RE telling me that if I was going to go on to IVF or IUI I had to have the tube took care of. Something about if you have a hydosalphix (sp) fluid in the tube blockage that could leak into the uterus and effect the embroyo.

@expecting I had to have it fully removed she thought if I were to get preg it could result in a tubal. That being said the "good tube" was inspected during surgery and he did a tuboplasty to open it up more....after it was removed we tried IUI once and a couple clomid rounds without success.

Went to IVF after having an ectopic in the "good tube" and loosing it...

Oh, okay. I hope everything turns out well. At the moment it looks like we won't be transferring this year, so we are both seem to encounter road blocks. Can you imagine the magnitude of the relief, the moment we get bfps (that actually maintain)? Must be incredible (and short lived, as we then stress about something else??) have a good week

@maldives...I'll have to ask at my next appointment about doing it again. It has to be in a certain window of your cycle, so would be next month.

Ugh.... Sorry you have deal with this. Wouldn't it be less invasive to do the same test again? I know you are happy to do what's necessary, but maybe another opinion would be a good idea?

@amanda...no tilted uterus, as far as I know.

@lpn...did you have to get it unblocked to try IUI or did you go straight to trying IVF?

I'm just confused why my dr is all for doing an IUI if he didn't see my right tube.

When I had mine he could tell 1 tube was blocked. They did have me roll over on my side thing so see if it would help allow the dye to flow.

Do you have a tilted uterus? I just had an HSG today and my uterus is tilted slightly toward the left so that tube filled up before the other one did. That is frustrating though!!!

@michelle...thanks. I'm calling the office today and will hopefully get some answers. Either way, I'll still try the IUI next month. Hopefully my mature follicle will be my left side!

It would be more than frustrating but I would definitely get a second opinion or confirm results through another doctor I'm sorry don't want to stress you honey just want you to get your bfp xx

@usound...thank you, I'm trying. Seeing your amazing BFP gives me hope and joy! So happy for you!

How frustrating. : ( another hurdle to worry over. I'm sure if the doctor was worried he wouldn't move forward. Stay positive. ?Prayers for you girl! ?

@michelle...exactly! I asked him over and over why he didn't think it was blocked and he said he's had this test done where he only sees one tube fill and the other tube ended up being fine. That the test is not 100% accurate. To determine 100% would have to be done with an invasive surgery. What a mess! This practice is very well respected, as well as the dr I see, but I'm worried I'm doing the wrong thing. I don't want to try something over and over and keep getting the same result. Just another thing to stress over.?

No insight, but didn't want to read and run. I'm sorry you are having to deal with more frustrations ☹️ hopefully someone else has answers!
