Going from IVF to IUI...

Going from IVF to IUI...

Our IVF dr said my husband's sperm count has drastically changed...from 5 mil to 55 mil. We were shocked. He now said trying IUI is an option. I'll be trying with my next period, Nov, so just wasn't sure of the expected dr visits, blood drawls & ultrasounds. With IVF it was constant, every 2-3 days. Also, what were your successful meds for your BFP?

We just did our second 50mg clomid+trigger shot+iui cycle. There was a scan at the beginning of the cycle to rule out cysts, 1-2 scans to check follicles, and then iui was scheduled for 36 hours after the trigger shot. I had 2 follicles the first cycle and 3 follicles the second cycle. Good luck!!

What we did on our BFP during IUI

I used the following:

Follistim + clomid for stimulation

Lupron for trigger shot

Progesterone during LP

Wobenzyme N

Selenium

Utericalm to increase implantation rates

My husband had decent sperm counts the last IUI we did 24mil post wash but we wanted to up our odds the best we could so he started testoFX which doubled his sperm count post wash.

I got my BFP, but sadly miscarried at 6 weeks

@lil-lass...thanks. I have a HSG scheduled for Monday to check my tubes. Going to ask questions about my protocol then.

It depends if it's a medicated and monitored cycle or not. IUI protocols vary a lot!

I did medicated and monitored & usually had 3 appointments with ultrasounds, so it's definitely less involved than IVF.

@Mel...thank you and good luck for baby #2!

@rebecs...he hasn't taken any meds. The only thing we can think of is he has a medical issue with colitis(gastric disorder) and the medication may have been effecting his count. I hope you get your BFP. I'll look for your updates!

Wow! That's an incredible change! Was he taking meds?? I've had 2 iui so far. The first was unmediated for me because (as far as we know) I don't have any issues. 2nd I took clomid and had 2 good sized follies but unfortunately that wasn't our round either. Starting gonal f shots tomorrow ready for round 3! With my 2 previous rounds, dr has done ultra sounds both times to check the size of the eggs. Both times she gave me a gondatrophine trigger shot to induce ovulation so she could time the iui better. Then on the day of the iui I had another ultrasound to check everything was working as it should. Hoping this time is it for us both! GL xx

Congrats - that's great news! IUI is a lot less involved than IVF. If you ovulate on your own, sometimes they don't even monitor your ovulation with ultrasounds.

I conceived my son with clomid and IUI. I took clomid, called the clinic when I had an LH surge, my husband and I went into the clinic the next day for the IUI and that was it.

I'm doing round one of IUI this cycle for baby #2. Good luck to you!

Going from IVF to IUI?!?!?!

Going from IVF to IUI?!?!?! So I just had a failed IVF cycle and at my post appointment with my dr today he recommended trying to do IUI. What?! Isn't that backwards?! Well it turns out my husband's sperm count and motility have increased significantly. He also explained it's only oral meds with half the visits, & a fraction of the cost. I'm just worried about wasting time on IUI and getting no results. I hear all the time ladies who did 4,5,6 rounds of IUI and ended in BFN. He said IVF obviously has a better success rate, but IUI can be a possibility now. I'm doing one or the other next month! Any ladies have any suggestions or experience??

Freaky things your kid has said!

Freaky things your kid has said! Today we were listening to the easy listening channel, which is all instrumental. A song came on that was composed in 1943. My three year old DD excitedly says...

One more IUI or move to IVF?

One more IUI or move to IVF? I need advice. I have figured out a way to afford IVF and I am still in disbelief. I have done two IUI's so far, has 3 miscarriages, one being a chemical from 1st IUI. Before coming up with this new plan, I was planning on doing one more IUI and asking my dr about adding injectables. Should I give IUI one more try or just jump into IVF? We are unexplained (but haven't done a lap). I like the idea of getting the embryos tested to decrease the chance of another loss. I'm really scared of the intensity of IVF. What is IVF like? How painful are the stims and the egg retrieval? How long does it take to recover? How may rounds have you done? Is frozen or fresh best? Which, if any was successful? Sorry, I just have a lot to consider.
