ugh whyyy???? RANT
Why do college professors wait until the first day of class to share what textbook you need???? No book store carries it and the ebook pages are not the same as the assignment pages and i don't have time to have one shipped because i won't have enough time to do my assignment. Ughhhhh i feel like i just wanted $60 and am going to struggle the whole semester to figure out what pages to read ?????????
**update** if anyone cares lol
I tracked down a woman from my fb group and meet her at one of the campuses and bought her brand new copy for 30$ and Amazon is giving me a full refund for the ebook. What started as an absolute nightmare turned out fine. Phwew. All is right in the world once again ?
In cases like this, it can be very helpful to contact your professor. Let them know what’s going on, either after class, during office hours or through email. A lot of times they’ll understand that things can be a bit screwy the first week of classes, and will be lenient on the first few deadlines as long as you keep a line of communication open with them. Unless your professor is a d*, in that case ask someone in your class if you can go to the study area or library and do the assignments together so you can look at their book.
Before i bought another one, id get with someone about the page numbers. I went through that when i was in college because renting ebooks was wayyyyyyy cheaper than any other options. It shows the page numbers as different because the pages are zoomed in to fit the screen, so it adds a tooonnn of pages. I just edited the page numbers on the one i bought (make "notes" on every few pages so you know what the real page number is). Theres another website that is like the Trivago for textbooks, its called BigWords.com . It searches every possible site its available on and gives you the best price options.
Sweet baby Jesus! Found someone in my fb mom's group with a copy ??????? $25
You should be able to find a copy somewhere online. Honestly I’ve only ever bought a few books ever in my life and the rest I’ve downloaded somewhere. Once i paid a kid in my class to borrow his book overnight and i took it to staples and got the whole thing copied and rebound and then took it back to him to the next day. Just breath. College is stressful!
I called the school last week to ask when the syllabus would be posted and they said it's up to the Prof and should be soon. She didn't post until yesterday ?
It's an online class
How frustrating. I have never had a professor that didn't provide a book list weeks before class starts. And, when I've had a few that changed things, they provided printouts to do assignments and provided extra time to get the books before expecting us to have them for assignments.
I'm sorry!!
The campus book store has intentionally hung up on my 5 times. SO even tried calling and they hung up on him too. All because they're " too busy to look and see if they have it". Wtf?
I purchased the ebook from Amazon which my Prof had provided a link for. I opened it in the Kindle app on my phone and the page numbers are so messed up. Chapter 1 starts on page 2035(wtf???) Meanwhile the paperback only has like 500 pages ?. I don't have anymore money even if i could find a paperback.
I emailed my Prof about the page numbers and an waiting to hear back.
It's my first day back since 2012 and already I feel like crying ?
Eta the book is "Everything you need to know about college writing" 2016 mla update
I’m a professor so I’m surprised they didn’t order anything from the bookstore (I always place an order or I know all my books are available on Amazon). I would just contact him/her and calmly describe your issue. Maybe they can help with translating book pages to the e-book or make suggestions on how to get a paper copy.
There's a bookstore online that's digital or will send paperback I think it's it's called cheggs I've had really good luck with them and reasonable.
Usually a professor will give you week to get your book in order if they wait to tell you what they want you too have for class.
Sometimes if you look up the title of the textbook followed by .pdf you can find a pdf of the book online for free.
