I know a lot of people think 1st birthday parties are dumb (parents make a big deal over a party the baby won't even remember) but I always found it special too. My first was born at 30 weeks, we got a lot of prayers and support but it was far from the normal "new baby" celebration. Since we lost that moment of celebrating his birth with our loved ones we went all out for his first birthday. So I totally get it :)

Aside from perishables, can you set everything aside until things calm down? I know tons of people who have to have birthdays a week/s and even a month/s later. I'm sure they'd understand. I know it's disappointing but hopefully you can still celebrate...even with a bit of a delay:)

We will be at a memorial service for my husbands grandmother on my sons first birthday ? but I hope we can still make some time for a little fun.

Thanks ladies. I suppose it's so important to me because dd will likely be our only child (not for lack of wanting more)and we had high hopes for a spectacular first birthday. And now it won't be as we had hoped.

But of course the hurricane is of high importance as well. I just figured that was common knowledge.

It's definitely understandable to be upset!! I would be upset too if I was in your position. Of course there's bigger things to worry about but that doesn't mean she doesn't get to up upset about this

being upset about spending money on a party you can't even have.....yeah, I'd be pretty upset too. And not even that, the celebration itself was ruined by the hurricane.

Lol no s*** I'm worried about the hurricane. Doesn't mean i can't be upset about my daughter's birthday as well. We spent a large portion of money on our supplies and have nothing left over to get her a cake or even a gift.

I'm sure she is worried about her house but damn let her be upset about her baby's birthday too!

Try to make the best of it mama. I hope she enjoys her day regardless.

I'd be more concerned with ya know, my house being destroyed or dying but I get how that would be upsetting.

Geez, just let her be upset, I'd be pissed off too. Her being upset isn't going to take away from anything else.

I mean I understand it sucks that you'll be dealing with the hurricane on her first birthday but overall there's a lot more at stake that this hurricane will ruin.

Clearly she can't have people come over for a birthday during a hurricane ....
