weaning from pacifier help
weaning from pacifier help
Lately my almost 6m old has been putting in a lot of effort to shove her whole pacifier in her mouth. It scares me so bad thinking that it could choke her or get stuck in her mouth. It's an Avent soothie. The big round rubber ones. I've tried other pacifiers but the nipples aren't long enough to keep it in her mouth. She currently only gets it when SO and i are awake therefore nights have been very difficult.

Idk how true this is as neither of my children took pacifiers. But i read or heard somewhere that if you make a tiny slit in the tip to where they cant get a suction on it they get bored with them. However she may get frustrated and cry. Im not sure. Sorry i dont have personal experience

Have you bought the next size up that Avent offers?
It actually is a very legitimate choking hazard to use a soothie that isn't the right recommended age. Part of the reason they have those two little holes in the circular piece is to allow airflow to pass if baby does accidentally swallow one.
You could also find her a wubbanub. It's a plush toy that come attached to a soothie and it would stop her from putting the entire thing in her mouth.

I searched everywhere for the next size up but found nothing. I thought maybe they only came in 3m sizes. Any idea where i can get them?
The wubanub is a good idea.

I've checked all over the internet. The specific pacifier that she takes seems to only come in 0-3. The Philips Avent Soothie like they give at the hospital.

I guess they have a 3m+ but it's the same size as the 0-3 ?

Sorry it posted like that but it's the 6-18month smoothie. My daughter never took a pacifier but I believe my sister got the 6-18 months at Wal-Mart but it must've been a while back.

The 3+ is bigger than the 0-3. It's not as easy to bend and fold because it's thicker, so your dd would probably have a harder time stuffing it in her mouth.
I would highly suggest a 3+ wubbanub. DS used one since he was a couple months old, I never worried about choking or it falling apart.

You can order the 6-18 month old ones from Walmart. They might have at a store by you

We had the 3 month + soothie and it was a lot harder.

It's a little harder to see the difference in the 6+ soothies, but there is a difference in the size and the flexibility like pp said.
