baby sleeping too much?
Is it possible? My 9 week old sleeps allll day and allll night.... She's awake about 4 hours a day maybe 5. It's to the point I have trouble getting her to eat. She sleeps so heavily I can't wake her without serious effort. She saw her pedi yesterday and she is healthy. But is it normal for them to sleep soooo much...
Plenty of wet diapers. At least three major dirty diapers a day. She poops a lot. She went from being very active to sleeping so much. That's the only reason I'm concerned. And her pedi said her weight was average and looked good. She wasn't concerned about the little amount of weight gain in the past month.
My LO only ate about 5-7 minutes, every 2-4 hours. I have a quick let down. She gained weight perfectly.
The longest she has ever eaten is maybe 15 minutes and that is with 2-3 of comfort sucking.
My ped told me to switch breast 5-10 per breast, but she got full of one so..
Different strokes for different folks.
For the first 3-4 months my LO slept and ate. She was up 30-45 minutes every 3-4 hours.
OK then I will download the app for sure and track her religiously until the first week of December and get her an appointment that way I have a good amount of consistent data to show the pedi. Or maybe I'll see a change in her over the next week and a half on the app. Thank you ladies.
DD doesn't sleep all day but she has only ever eaten from one breast for 5 minutes every feed.
I would call your pediatrician and ask but I was told by mine that once birth weight is hit to let them sleep.
I had the problem of trying to wake her and she wouldn't wake up. Asked the pediatrician and she said it was because she wasn't ready to eat and she'd let us know.
If you haven't already download the app feed baby. It tracks everything from feed times, diapers, growth, vaccines, medicine, and sleep. It will give you an accurate time table that you can show your pediatrician.
From 10(her wake up) until about noon she's awake and happy. After that she'll take a nap and then that's all she does all day until around 4pm or so then she's up about an hour then napping until around 8-9pm for an hour then asleep again for the night. With 2-3 nighttime feeds from 1-2am until 10am when she wakes up again.
The only thing I know is the older the baby gets, the more they can tolerate a higher bilirubin level. ie: at 4 days old levels at 15 could be really high. But at 7 days old baby can tolerate that same level better where it's shown on the chart as low.
You could always call a Children's Hospital near you and ask to speak with the triage nurse. They can usually give you advice, but definitely call and speak with your pedi or a nurse there Monday.. maybe even see if they have an on call staff for the weekend. Childrens hospital is usually really good at giving advice over the phone.. if you call a regular hospital they won't tell you anything except to go to the er.
Also she went from feeding from both breasts to feeding from one.
She was jaundiced when she was born but by her first pedi appointment they said she was fine. When she is awake she is very normal. This excessive sleeping started about a week ago maybe a little more. Can she get jaundice again? I don't know much about jaundice. And I do have a very strong let down. Sprays like crazy if she unlatches. It's as if she's not even awake during feeding.
And I didn't even think to mention the excessive sleeping at her apt. I think I'll bee making another appointment. She got 4 vaccines yesterday, maybe that's adding to the sleepiness and making it more apparent.
Dd2 feeds about 15 min every 3 hours and i know she eats enough because my let down is very strong. So depending on your supply, 15 min may be all your lo needs to be full. At 9 weeks I wouldn't think this would be a problem. But if lo has jaundice that makes them very tired and so not eating enough.. dd2 was jaundice and lost 8% of her birth weight with a bilirubin level of 23 (25 starts causing damage like hearing loss and other things). Once we got that under control, she gained almost a whole lb in a week. Not sharing to scare you, but there may be an underlying issue the pedi missed.
Did you mention the excess sleeping at the appt?
Dd2 is almost 4 weeks old and she sleeps alot but she does wake up and look around while being active and alert at least twice a day right now.
No we don't swaddle. I do diaper changes once she falls asleep but it doesn't help she'll only stay awake another 3 minutes or so. I do activities with her during the day buy she gets cranky after an hour or so and isn't happy until I get her ready for a nap.
I have no idea why your pedi said this was normal. If your baby is only feeding for 10-15 min per feeding, you need to wake your lo up. Rubbing or scratching her back will work. Also wake up to eat. Dont let her sleep more then 3 hours between feedings. Are you swaddling? Swaddling causes babies to feel so comfy, they will skip feedings and will cause her to loose weight.

My sweet baby girl gained her angel wings this morning. She was my best friend, my true love my everything. She was so happy and beautiful, I'm struggling to say good bye. Sleep tight princess, mummy and daddy love you very very much ❤️
I can't take it anymore! Haley (yes my 1mth old and no I wasn't able to go through this "joy" of nursing my older daughter, Molly) has been screaming non stop for 6hrs! All she wants to do is eat and I can't have her attached to me all day, everyday! She has wanted to eat every hr on the hr for the past 3hrs! I put her in her room so I don't scream at her but I just can't take it!
omg... I'm so depressed my child cries more than she doesnt..The only time she's not crying is when she's alsleep.. but she only sleeps 30 minutes each time. she won't sit in her carseat, her crib, pack n play , her swing, bouncer nothing!!! I have to hold ger 24/7 even when she's sleeping or else she will wake up. I'm tired I don't get any sleep nothing soothes her I don't even remember the last time I had enough time to bathe :'( I love her so much but this is so challenging
This girl on my fb is 8 weeks pregnant with her first child and she said she felt the baby 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️people these days 😂😂😂
How much does your kids sleep around age 3 or 4? I feel like my daughter does not get enough she is up by 630 almost everymoring and its such a fight to get her to bed like 9 930 she refuses to nap. Is this natural?
She even will tell you she can't sleep its hard for her.
My son was sleeping the same but he started at 6 weeks. His pedi said some babies are different than others..Now he is 2 years old and is very health.
