Does anyone let their LO watch tv?
I have a nephew who is 4 and he watches tv ALL the time, and has since he was a baby and he has a terrible attention span. He won't even sleep unless the tv's on. It's really sad.
@ugachick04- please don't think I was attacking you because that is not my inattention. You just ask why it was bad and I knew some of the reason, so I thought I would share them.
@ugachick04 - Here are some of the reasons why children should not watch TV or even play on cell phone and tablets.
1. Child at this age learn through their senses
2. Can cause language delays
3. Have a negative impact on social skills
4. Irregular sleep patterns
5. Behavior issuse
6. Focus & attention problems
Bottom line is there is children learn through play and their is no substitute for human to human interaction. Even the baby Einstein videos were recalled because for a Tv program or computer program to be educational a child has to be able to understand how something works. I'm not going to lie I've caught my son watching TV. I watch Tv Sunday nights and Monday nights. I think one should just use common sense.
I don't sit my lo in front of the tv but when I am changing her or even playing with her she will turn her head and stare at it. I think she likes the movement and colors and she will only watch for 15 min.
I admit I have tried to entertain with tv but my little girl isn't interested...That's good lol.
If I'm watching tv, or dd is watching Cinderella for the 5 millionth time he likes to watch. Lol he starts talking to it too it cracks me up. I would never use it as a babysitter though. Dd usually watches for how every long that movie is a day then it's back to the play room or outside.
I don't. I've read too many negatives about it to feel comfortable with it for my daughter...plus, I know myself too well (I'd probably start using it as a babysitter)but to each his/her own.
I let my daughter watch movies sometimes. But she falls asleep during them. She just watches for the colors.
Absolutely! There's not a thing wrong with that. Tildyn is 3 months & loves to watch TV! She is so intrigued my bright colors & flashing things, so imagine how much TV has her attention!
No and I won't until he's much older. My first never watched until he was a little over two then all of a sudden he discovered that he liked cartoons. I limit the amount he watches every day to no more than two hours and that's broken up throughout the day. Even though it is educational I want him to use his imagination and play, not just sit watching TV all day.
My lo will watch tv she's 3 months. We have a pretty big tv in the living room and when I'm doing dishes I find her head and eyes glued on the tv. She loves the colors so I put on learning channels. It's not like she's watching it for hrs, it's prolly a total of an hr a day maybe.
My LO will star at tv if she sees it some times but I don't set her in front of it and put show on for her. I saw on another page ur not supose to let children watch TV till 2 but they didn't say why.
Handmaid's tale got me screaming at the tv!!

She occasionally tries to watch it when I'm walking around with her etc but I try to turn it off and avoid this as much as possible. Babies need play and interaction not tv. Of course they love it because it's a giant glowing moving colors and lights lol but it's not good for their brain development and can possibly even harm them. Do a search or talk to your pediatrician about it and they should tell you the same. It's been recommended from the American association of pediatrics not to let kids watch tv before two because they simply cannot process what they're even seeing. Here is one article about it : http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2011/10/infant-tv-guidelines/
