Sleeping through the night

How did you do it? Am I doing it wrong? My kid eats every 3-4 hours, including at night. I've been reading up on how I can get him to sleep more at night but all I really found was extending the length between feedings. I just don't see how I can do that at night if he's showing so many signs of hunger by the 3-4 hour mark. I also read feeding baby more during the day so they'll sleep more at night.

I feed my daughter every 3-4 hours throughout the day and her nighttime bottle and morning bottle I give her more milk . They the day she drinks 4 oz and at night it's 5 oz and she sleeps from 11-6 am.

It is completely normal at this age to be waking during the night so don't stress too much.

Sleeping through the night is considered to be about 5 hours so 3-4 hours is good.

Just remember babies are constantly growing and changing and will go through growth growth spurts and wonder weeks where sleep may not be consistent.

My now 3 yo didn't sleep a lot until she got older. And she didn't sleep completely through until she was 1 when we took the bottle away. My 7 weeks old only gets up twice to eat and usually goes immediately back to sleep. We aren't doing anything different than we did with her other than I'm EBF this time. So, personally I think it just depends on the baby and you shouldn't force it. Side note, my grandma has told me that my uncle only slept 4 hours a night, was walking and talking by 4-6 months, and even doing math not long after that. So basically, it could always be worse :).

Do u follow the same routine every night? My daughter doesnt sleep through the night bit the majority of the time she sleeps 6 hours then wake for 20-45 then back to bed for another 2-3 hours. 2 nights ago she did sleep an 8 hour stretch. I feed on demand.

My first didnt sleep 12hrs until was close to 4-5months but every baby is different a routine is key and very helpful☺

For us it has been consistency with routine. Around 9:30 we give Margo a bottle, then bath with lavender baby wash, then lavender baby lotion, clean PJs, then rock & sing to her til she falls asleep, then lay her down with white noise. She's been sleeping until 4-4:30. Pretty good run for a 6 week old

Some babies just take longer to get to that point and nothing you will do helps. I've had good sleepers and bad sleepers. Doesn't hurt to try or get a routine going but I don't feel it is something you can make them do. When they are ready, they will sleep, their tummy is still telling them they are hungry so they need to eat. We are still up once, sometimes twice. He doesn't want to play and goes right back to sleep so I figure he must need it still.

Not sure if you are using a pacifier or not but I've been able to get an extra hour between bedtime and first feeding by giving it to him. Did that for a couple of nights and now he sleeps that extra hour without it.

Depending on your beliefs you can let baby fuss for awhile and see if they go back to sleep. I don't do that before six months and even then I still have a hard time going through with it.

Not getting enough sleep sucks but try to enjoy those middle of the night snuggles while they last.

I need some tips too because the longest mine will go is 4 hours

I am thinking of giving him a bottle of breast milk before bed to make sure he eat a good meal because most of the time after a bath he will fall asleep after only nurse for 5 minutes

Mine has slept thru the night the past two nights (10 pm to 5 am, feed, then back to sleep 2 or 3 hours). I breast feed but also pump for bottles. We have found that giving her a bottle around 9pm helps her sleep longer.

Usually a bath and good bottle works for my LO. I'll nurse her if she wakes up in the middle of the night.

I just gave up on sleep....lol. She is Ebf so she eats every 2-4 hrs 24/7...I'm so exhausted I can't figure out how to get a routine. Plus, she got her shots yesterday so I'm trying to control her fever non stop. Bye bye sleep.

My baby has a bath before bed, then i put on a clean diaper and warm pajamas (we sleep with the ac on, then he eats and falls asleep on the boob and i gently lay him beside me in our bed to sleep. He only wakes up once now. (Daddy sleeps on the couch until we ger a king sized bed)

We started giving our daughter a four ounce bottle of breastmilk at night to make sure she eats enough before she goes to sleep. During the day she only eats 2-3 oz every 2-3 hours. And it's helped us! Last night she slept 5.5 hours straight! It keeps getting longer every night

I used the lavender scented bath soap and lotion by Johnson and Johnson and after a little routine and a bottle after her bath she slept through the night. Maybe try that?

My baby's pediatrician told me that 15 lbs is the magic number for sleeping through the night. So according to her it has more to do with the baby's size.

My first was tiny and he didn't sleep through the night until he was 7 months old. This one is growing like crazy and started sleeping through the night at 2 months. (He's 15 lbs exactly) Although I've noticed that if he doesn't eat as frequently during the day he doesn't sleep as well at night. So I would say try to increase feedings during the day or at least in the evening.

I'm right there with you. My baby has always showed signs of hunger every 2-3 hours. The last few weeks being the middle of the night it has stretched from 3-4. He eats and goes right back to sleep so I know that's what he's wanting. I'm following this post :)
