Pelvic pain during & after birth

Knowledgable mommies who have SPD or severe pelvic pain, does it affect labor, birth, or after birth for you?

Комментарии

Goingforfour......sounds like you had the sort of labour I'm worried about first time round! I've decided to not breast feed too so my body goes back to normal minus all the hormones as quick as possible

Saw my midwife today and I'm being referred to a consultant to discuss birth options incase my hips give up on me! Will keep u posted!

I had it that severe with my 2nd pregnancy and to be honest the labour was terrifying ? mine was specifically affecting my left leg and it felt like it was being cut off with a saw, I was in agony and it was definitely caused by the SPD.

My 3rd daughter though, born 12.5 months later I had SPD through the pregnancy just as severe and the birth was a breeze!!! I don't know if that's because the relaxin made my joints sooooo soft and flexible that there was no resistance - I'm not sure. But I've had 2 drastically different experiences ☺️ I'm not sure what will happen this time though!

And my SPD symptoms have always lingered until I finish breastfeeding. I talked to my dr and he said that's because the relaxin levels stay high until milk production stops.

I'm a FTM but I've read quite a bit over it. Apparently the relaxin will make labor tricky bc it's suggested to birth on all fours on on your side, pretty much a position where you aren't over extending your legs open. The pain won't go away if you're gonna breastfeed bc as log as you breastfeed the relaxin stays in your body which makes SPD worse. Hope this helps...

I hear you ladies! I have had huge issues with herniated discs & sacroiliac problems as well so mobility has been difficult & the pain just gets me down at times too (along with not being able to lift my 2yr old). I am also worried about the birth but am optimistic that it hopefully won't make anything worse

With my third pregnancy I had bad pain in my hips and like pp says it just faded away during labor.

I did have some troubles after birth still but it went after a few weeks with physiotherapy and most likely the hormones leaving my system.

This pregnancy and the last one, I got onto physio early and haven't had nearly as much pain

I tell my husband I'm ready lets get this done! Lol I'm ready to have my body back. I have fibromyalgia so I'm pretty used to pain but this pregnancy pain is the icing on my cake. My poor hips ? I'm in pain and I got a massage this morning. I have high hopes for all of us. We made it this far after all. And we're so close. I'm going to stay optimistic about labor and birth. I'll figure it all out when the time comes. I just pray I'm able to get the epidural or else I might be a ragging lunatic.

@dcmas that's made me feel more optimistic! Thank you. I really hope my body goes back to normal after the baby!

I had it with my last pregnancy, and was worried about it during labour. However it seems to fade into the background...you are in pain and so focused on labour you kind of forget about the previous pain. And I didn't notice it after I gave birth. Other parts of me hurt worse ?

This pregnancy my pelvic pain is 100% worse and I cannot wait to start labour so that pain goes away.

@Beloamor my physio was trying to get me to lift my right leg the other day and I just couldn't do it! Thankfully the inflammation has gone down loads and I can lift both legs fine at the moment, but as soon as I start doing too much around the house that's when the pain kicks in and I'm laid up again for days. It's so hard because I'm wanting to clean everything but my body just won't allow it! Make sure u don't over do it envy otherwise it will get worse!

I'm worried too. I can't barely lift one leg up. I'm wondering if when I'm pushing and I have to lift my leg will it affect me .. It's so painful. Hopefully with epi Ill be ok.

️Awww! Poor thing. That sounds very painful. I could understand feeling embarrassed using crutches, I'm sure I'd feel the same but at least they're there if you need them. I'm hard headed and I can't just sit and rest all day. I have OCD for cleaning and the way things get done. This pregnancy had taught me a lot of patience. I cleaned the floors the other day and of course my pelvis was sore but so was my arm! Lol I couldn't believe it. I had a huge knot in my arm. It was so gross to be able to feel how big and tight it was. Note: my house isn't that big so I really don't know how that happens. I guess I have blood flow to thank for that one. Haha

I haven't been able to drive for two weeks, just a five minute drive leaves me laid up in pain! I love the weekend when my oh is home to just take me out for a slice of cake somewhere to get me out the house! I'm like you tho In the house all the time bored, have to get taxis to appointments. So annoying when I can drive. I must admit the crutches were useful the other day. But since I've been resting the inflammation has gone down so I've been able to walk (hobble) without them. Sounds silly but I get embarrassed using them x

That's exactly what I'm afraid of, it getting worse. ?

I'm hoping I'll be able to get an epidural but I'm preparing for that "just in case" I'm not able to get one. I'm assuming other pains will be worse so I won't even be thinking about my hips but then I worry when he actually is coming out. Totally siking myself out but these stretches and exercises should help me during birth. My assumption is I'll feel better wants the pressure is off of my hips.

I've been hearing of women getting crutches. I'm not sure how that would work for me. I've never had to use them before. Lately I don't go out much but to my appts and stores that I need to go to. Mostly for the pain and then because I don't really like people lol Especially driving or people walking and cutting me off or kids/people almost running into me. I'm like HELLO preggo here!! Thanks haha

I'm so worried about this too! My physio gave me crutches the other day as I'm struggling to walk so much and I can't help but feel the pain is just gunna get worse as the baby gets bigger. So worried about labour

I had SPD with my last. It was bad. I don't feel like it hurt any more or less during L&D at all. For me, I was dreading walking at first but was pleasantly surprised when I got up and wasn't in much pain at all. I don't know if I was just distracted or what but I think as soon as all the weight and pressure shifted off my pelvis and hips I felt like a million bucks.

Wow your sounds really bad. I'm suffering with pelvic pain to I haven't needed to see the doctor over it. But Id be interested to see what people say. As I know it's only going to be worse the further along I get! ?
