UTI Help

I've only had a couple uti's in the past. Haven't had one in years so I'm not sure what this problem is, plus being pregnant it feels different. I do have to pee often but I just assumed it's part of pregnancy. (FTM) my problem is while I'm peeing it feels like I have bladder pain from pressure. And after I go pee it feels like my bladder is contracting and is pretty painful, especially night time bathroom breaks from holding urine. I have no burning sensation or any other symptoms I can think of.

Two days for results?! I've gotten results in 20minutes. My old general doctor use to go ahead and put me antibiotics before the results came back because I got them so often

What did you find out?

Hope you're doing better!

@meganloraine Oh wow! Yes, very good you went. I'm going in soon to drop off a urine sample. The nurse said it'll take 2 days for results.

That is uncommon that they didn't test you last time you visited. My dr's office has all pregnant patients check in and then immediately go get them a urine sample.

If you call them today, let us know what you find out. I ended up going to the hospital last night because I was having such bad cramping and pressure in my lower abdomen. Sure enough, I had a bad Uti so they had to iv me some antibiotics. At first I didn't want to go because I thought it was just round ligament pain, but like I said better safe than sorry. So I'm glad I went. :)

Good luck and keep us posted!

@cjday1 I'm surprised too. No peeing in a cup. My last dr I switched from had me pee in a cup every visit and did a pretty thorough ultrasound to check on baby. Thank you for the advice :) I'm calling my dr in the morning. If they can't do anything til a later time then I'll be switching my dr. because it's pretty ridiculous to not test a preggo for a routine urine sample.

That's strange they didn't test you ...I pee in a cup every time I go to dr...I had a really bad bladder infection at 7 weeks and brushed it off for a week (thought it was just from being pregnant) by the time I went into the dr and found out I was in so much pain! Cramping really bad I was crying and pressure of having to pee !! Definitely do not put anything off as its probably normal...if it's painful then go get checked and if they can't solve it then go get 2nd opinion

@hanagracee She prescribed me Prilosec and Ambien. Neither have good reviews for pregnant women. Even the pharmacist was weary and then when I told her I didn't want them she told me I need to follow drs orders. Being in this situation of switching drs so many times and farther in pregnancy is not what I expected at all! I just want to be treated well for myself and my growing baby. Is that really too much to ask for? But yes I agree on asking friends. I just had dinner with one and she's recommending her dr so I'll be calling them tomorrow. Thanks :)

Yeah, I'd look for another doctor if she is giving meds not good for pregnancy. I was recommended my doctor by several ladies I know so I'd ask your friends and any women you know.

@hanagracee Oh wow! Yeah, I'm surprised too. I just switched my OB to my pain management dr. She's also an OB. Crazy I know. But now I'm starting to feel like it was a bad idea. She also prescribed me sleeping aid and heartburn medicine not common for pregnancy because of the risks and all. I'm feel like it's so hard to find a dr who I can trust and feel comfortable with. It's starting to scare me for when the baby comes and more.

If you don't have a primed or something, most Walgreens or CVS' have home testing strips that will tell you if you need to go to a doctor. It won't tell you if you have one for sure but it does give you an idea of if you should go or not. It sounds like the beginning of my UTI's. I had 6 last year, 2 since I found out I'm pregnant. Mine come on quickly so when I start to feel painful pressure while peeing or painful pressure without being able to pee, I go to the doctor. I'm surprised your doctor didn't test you. I have to pee in a cup every doctors appointment to check for UTI's and protein.

I get those pains some time and I know they aren't UTI's because it goes away the next pee. I don't know what it is.

UTIs usually get worse the longer you have them. I used to do a CVS minute clinic or urgent care if I let it get too bad. The cystex drink and pills are lifesavers by the way!

I am going through the same exact thing right now. I am 23+5 also FTM. The pressure on my bladder is crazy. I have been to doctors twice this week for lower abdomen pain and both times negative UTI tests. Took a another home one this morning and negative. My doctor said its really bad round ligament pain and stretching and wants me to get a maternity belt. Waiting to see my friend this week who had twins who is going to give me hers. I also think I'm tiny bit irregular so just had my SO buy me some benefiber. Also trying stretching to move her a bit. I just keeping drinking water and hoping for it to pass. Doctor checked everything and everything is closed and tight and normal.

I got UTIs multiple times a year before my pregnancy and had one right at the start of my pregnancy. (All the women in my family are very prone to them for some reason.)

Anyway, every time I get one the symptoms will vary but from what you're describing it sounds like a UTI. I would call your doctor tomorrow and let them know what's going on and see if they can get you in and on antibiotics. You don't want to wait because the infection can easily spread to your kidneys and trust me when I say, you do NOT want to go through that especially while pregnant. A kidney infection untreated can also cause preterm labor.

Better safe than sorry, call your dr and they will get you in and test your urine.

I seen UTIs cause pre term labor so you def need to make sure itd taken care of. As far as pains, I get pains everywhere down low some knock me to the floor. I think its normal. Im a FTM too & I go to the ER for every pain & they told me its normal. So its not necessarily your UTI causing it but could be a factor. I had a UTI for the first time ever two weeks ago & I didnt even know bc no symptoms. & all my pains are the exact same so I dont think it was the cause of mine.

I had my first uti with this pregnancy and it caused a lot of pressure in my lower womb and severe back pain. They put me on antibiotics and everything seemed okay until I started feeling menstrual cycle like pains... At that point they had me come in to check my cervix and check on my little man. I was told the pressure and cramps with the severe back pain could've been something a lot worst so they didn't want to take any chances. Have they put you on any meds yet?
