My son flipped at around 35 weeks to breech and then at my 36 week appointment she found he was head down and engaged! I couldn't tell when he flipped except for hiccups were low...

Chiropractic is another option.

Personally, I'd exhaust all other options before opting for a c section

My first was a footling breech. With footling's EVC'S are just too dangerous imo, so we went with an elective c-section. It went really smoothly as in like textbook smooth. I have had 2 more children since and both were vbac's. I know I am not much help but it is possible to have very successful vaginal births after having a c-section. My most recent was a week ago I gave birth to my second son. His birth was fast and hard but he is perfect and healing has been pretty great.

We went in yesterday for our scan and weekly appointment. Baby is still breech, and I have low amniotic fluid (not a good candidate for ECV). Did a 20 minute NST and passed- but my doctor would like me back tomorrow to do a follow-up scan and NST.

Not exactly what I was hoping to hear. We scheduled a c-section for the 20th (due date is the 21st) and at this point I'm hoping to make it to that point. Going for my weekly appointments I'll get my fluid level checked and as long as it doesn't get any lower she's safe to stay in there.

Thanks for all your support ladies!! Oh- and I will get a scan on the day of to see if she's miraculously turned head down, in which case they'd induce me for a vaginal delivery. So there's still hope. Either way- the countdown is real!! ?

Liv- so glad to hear you had a successful ECV. It does make me consider that as an option.

I will definitely be waiting until next week after we have a scan and see exactly what we're looking at (position, size, amount of fluid, etc)- but I am so glad to hear that there is hope for her to turn. Be it naturally or via successful ECV.

I could have written your post- the same exact situation happened to me! After much research, I found that the risks of an ECV a very low and it is a common practice with most midwives. I went with it because I wanted a vaginal, natural birth and it worked for me! I suggest treating it looks me practice for labor, just breathe and try to trelax and know that when it's over the uncomfortableness stops. Good luck!

Thank you both for your experiences. I just worry about the risks in ECV to baby and possibly needing an emergency c-section if there are complications. I would rather see if she flips on her own using spinning babies and other techniques- and if she doesn't turn naturally- it's not meant to be.

To me- the risks to baby by trying ECV are much greater than having her not turn and me having an elective c-section at 39 weeks. I know risks to me are higher- but letting baby do what she's going to do on her own (or without medical intervention) is what's best for her.

My baby was frank breech at 36w 4 days so i opted for an ECV at 37w 2. It was successful and not as bad as i thought it would be. The worst part was the nurse getting my IV in. It was uncomfortable while she was pushing on my belly but not painful. Hopefully he stays head down now!

Do spinning babies or the miles circuit. They have really high flip rates. I had a transverse baby and it flipped because of the exercises I did.

Also, see a maternity chiropractor. Most women have trouble flipping their babies because they're out of alignment without realizing it. I swear by chiropracting and it has helped immensely. My insurance covered it too!

Personally I'd avoid a c section unless my life or baby's life depended on it.

I have a cousin who was in a very similar situation with her first, and is now carrying another breech baby at 34w. I'll see her tonight as we celebrate Christmas Eve together- and I'm hoping to hear her thoughts as well.

I had the same happen to me! I'm a little nervous about having an ECV done and think that if she doesn't want to come out a certain way I'm not going to intervene. Dr said there's still time to flip so positive thoughts!! Not to mention there are lots of exercises you can do to try and get her into position too! Good luck!

I had two breech babies, one turned w a successful easy ECV at 38 wks. Second turned on his own after a week of spinning babies techniques at home 37 wks. While a c section doesn't "sound" scary, the bottom line is natural birth is much healthier for you both. I always think of what is the lowest risks and healthiest. Boooooo parade Rainer.

Sorry to hear that baby isn't cooperating right now!! I'm a FTM so take what I say with a grain of salt lol but I have heard the chances of a successful ECV are lower in first time moms due to ab strength. But it is totally possible! I have heard amazing things about spinning babies, also, a Chiro that specializes in the Webster Technique. Just a thought ? I hope everything goes well and you get the delivery you were hoping for!

I agree that a c section doesn't scare me. We have a 3 year old and are going to a hospital an hour away. The c section will let me plan better and let my family (they live 6 hours away) get here in time to babysit! Either way we just want healthy babies and natural or c sections will most likely give us that. My first delivery was pretty rough and I don't think I've ever been quite the same "down there". So the c section might be better in some respects!

This happened with my son, I had the ECV done, but the cord went/fell into my pelvic area ? Doctor said it wasn't safe to push because the the baby's head would push on the cord and that's dangerous. We/I went with the c section just to be safe.

Thank you ladies for your ECV inputs. I am continually trying to read and learn more about it now that there's the possibility of needing/having one.

Again, I'm not sure why an elective c-section doesn't scare or worry me. As much as going into pregnancy I wanted to avoid it- I have a very skilled and experienced OB and trust her 100%. Which is maybe why I don't worry about such a major surgery.

This baby girl is already being stubborn and making me make decisions (which anyone who knows me, knows I'm a terrible decision maker ?)

ECV is not fun, but I personally am glad I gave it a try. Had it worked, I wouldn't have to worry about a cesarean which I was hoping to avoid. My dr tried really hard so my lower and upper belly felt sore for days! My csection is scheduled on the 29th and I'm hoping there's still a chance baby will flip on its own.

With my daughter I found out she was frank breech at 37 weeks they just wanted to schedule a c section but I wanted to try whatever I could to have a natural birth. I tried the rotation for an hour which was not so fun but I wanted to try anything to get her to turn. With no success and upsetting my daughter we had to stop and my c section was scheduled for 3 days later. Before I had the c section they did do another ultrasound right before to make sure she was still breeched. I hope whatever you decide gets your baby to flip!

Mothergose- Sorry to hear your ECV was unsuccessful. There's still time- I hope all goes smoothly as you near the end of pregnancy.

I just tried an ecv yesterday. It was not successful. It hurt pretty bad while they tried but the pain goes away when they stop. They gave it 3 tries. Today I am sore but not too bad. It was worth trying. The baby didn't like the third attempt but it bounced right back with an okay heartbeat shortly after. Whatever you decide will be fine! Good luck.

Ultimately the decision will be made by my husband and I- but I really do appreciate the continued responses and insight from all you other moms. Very helpful when faced with a very difficult decision.

My last baby was breech. I chose elective c-section at 39 weeks. The option was that they could try to flip him at 37 weeks, but if he flipped, they would induce me right then. If he didn't turn, they would do the c-section right then. So really it was a matter of having him at 37 weeks or 39 weeks. I wanted to keep him in as long as possible so that his lungs had longer to develop. I also tried all the home remedies I could, but nothing worked.

I haven't been through it but someone I know has been through both scenarios. One individual had a c section on her 2nd pregnancy then on her 3rd had baby turned. She stated that the turning hurt worse than anything as the doctor and nurse basically push on your belly to turn baby as the other is reaching in.

That being done she had a csection after for her next pregancy .

As for me one my twins is breech and the other head down. So, I'm doing a csection as well at 39 wks. All my others been vaginal but other members been through it tell me its hard for first couple weeks but after it gets better. Guess, I will see just 3 wks. To go if not sooner.

I had an ECV at 35+4. They give you a shot to relax your uterus (makes your belly feel like jello) and the pressing & pushing is uncomfortable after the first minute or so. It can get pretty bad. My little girl got her butt wedged in my pelvis & the dr kept digging her thumb trying to pop it out but it didn't work & I bruised above my pelvis. It's like a 50/50 chance they can turn baby & a 50/50 chance they'll stay head down. It's definitely worth a shot. Because mine was unsuccessful, my c-section is scheduled for Jan 11.

Alexandria- that gives me hope that she can still turn on her own. To me, the idea of a ECV is more nerve wracking than an elective cesarean. I feel like I'm weird in that way though. But I think everything happens for a reason- I'll give her her time to flip on her own and if she does, great, if not, c-section it is.

My son was frank breech I found out at 36 weeks then my midwife and I discussed my options I went into labor my water broke at 37 + 5 and told them at the hospital he was breech and needed a c section so they did a sonogram and the sneaky punk was head down ready to go lol I still had a c section but because he was so tied up in my umbilical cord that his heart was dropping with every contraction

medji- thank you for sharing your story ? As of now we're playing by ear- we have another ultrasound next Wednesday to see baby's size, amount of fluid, and placement. We'll make a decision at that point how we'd like to move forward.

Following! I have 36+1 and have am appointment Tuesday to confirm baby is breech. Then it's decision time.

My son who is now 1 was transverse and I opted for an elective c section. He finally turned and went into the correct position on his own at like 38 weeks than the day of surgery he was transverse again he moved so much during pregnancy . I can honestly say a planned c section for me was the easiest I did not feel any pain whatsoever the worst pain I felt was the iv being placed on my arm everything else was easy . It's completely up to you because I do regret not being able to experience natural labor and the whole excitement of the first moments when baby is being placed on your chest . My husband got to enjoy the first 45 minutes of his life without me As they were closing me back up and told my husband to go with them to clean the baby and all that.

JNL- I'll look forward to hearing if your ECV is successful. I hope for the best for you. Part of me wants to just see if she'll flip on her own, but part would like to try the ECV. I know a c-section is a major surgery, but for some reason it doesn't scare/worry me really at all.

I personally would do everything possible that is safe to flip baby before ever considering a c section, but granted I have never been through a situation like this. I have heard awesome things about spinning babies try to check it out.
