Abbyd-ann- the freestyle one? And I did check w my insurance, they only cover 300$ so I'd have to cover the 150$ the Medela freestyle would come up to but only pay 30$ extra for the Ameda. I'm trying to figure out of the extra 120$ difference between the Medela and the Ameda is worth it.
Chepshow- are you planning on getting another Medela or reusing the instyle?
Chatterlily- that sounds environmentally friendly and I'm a fan of closed systems but the ordering of extra supplies sounds like a pain!
Google medela mold and you'll be turned off Medela. They are open system and are terrible to clean which is why they sell so many replacement parts. If you have one, be sure you clean it well and check it for mold. I used the Avent pump and it was more comfortable for me than the Medela at the hospital and it's closed system so no internal mold issues.
Mrsdrano- thanks! Seems like the Ameda is not as popular.
Joeysmom- I think the freestyle might be the newer Medela but it's more expensive too by like 75$ Canadian at my local toys r us, but yay, good to hear good reviews for the in style!
What MLowry said! Genius :) I probably wouldn't have even thought of that, even though my insurance will only provide a Medela.
Both are great & comparable as far as quality goes! I work at a baby boutique with the area lactation. Consultant and she sells both. The motor in medela is a tiny bit quieter and medela is faster (in our area) at replacing parts. Less than 24 hours usually... But that will depend on where you live. Not that they break often but in a pinch every few hours can feel like a lot longer. Our hospital grade pumps we have actually are compatible with Ameda tubing so I have that one. I rented my pump initially for my first pregnancy.
My insurance covered both! Just got them, haven't opened the boxes yet. I used the medela pump with my first and it was good. I got the hands free wrap so I could eat and work. Have you checked with insurance about covering a pump?
I've never heard of ameda. I have a medela pump in style and love it. Pumped exclusively for 2 months when my son was first born and then switched to ebf but still pumped for extra milk and to unclog plugged milk ducts. With my 2nd, I rarely pumped but when I did, I felt like I let down easily to the medela
I got a Hygeia EnJoye. I'm hoping that it works well. I'm having to preorder extra supplies because it's not really in stores. But it is a closed system pump and the company will take it back when I'm done and refurbish it so it doesn't just get trashed, so it sounded good to me.
I did not like my ameda at all it's ok for someone who isn't using it all the time I ended up buying a medela and loved it
I used the Medela pump in style double pump previous pregnancy and I loved it! It was easy to use and had letdown feature. I am not sure which I will use this time as I do not know yet which is covered under my insurance company, but hopefully it is as good if not better.
Yes I got the Freestyle. I used the same model with my 5 year old daughter when she was born.
Kskeleton- which Medela did you get? Freestyle, instyle? It's 450$ Canadian here for the freestyle and unfortunately my insurance only covers 300$ so I'm trying to get a feel for what's worth it!
I got a $399 new Medela Brest pump free through our health insurance! If you have health insurance call them. I sent them an email asking because I heard this was a new change. They emailed me back and give me 6 different medical supply companies that were "in network". I just went to one of the websites and ordered it. Gave my insurance info and that's it! Nothing out of pocket!
Mlowry- hmm, I didn't even think of supplies! I think in general Medela has a lot more supplies. Thanks!
Rudebaby- I read that the Ameda is the only closed system on the market right now, make sense she would recommend it for hygenic reasons, thanks!
You may want to consider what stores are near you to conveniently buy extra supplies. I got a Medela pump thru insurance and have found that Target stores and Babies R Us sell all extra accessories and parts for Medela. Not sure where, if any stores, sell supplies for the other brand.
My lactation consultant said she recommends the Ameda. Both pumps are good, but the Medela has a lot more pieces and is a lot harder to efficiently clean.
Should I get: Medela, Spectra, Ameda, Evenflo, Lansinoh or Motif - breast pump?
Im not sure which breast pump to order my choices are the Medela, Ameda, and Natures Bond. Any suggestions?
I see so many mommies giving their babies rice cereal to sleep even though it's not recommended? Why?
Spectra S2 or Medela? Also what storage bags would you recommend?
Any recommended apps to track my pregnancy please?☺

Tazz82- I would love to rent and then buy when I'm sure but renting for 10 days in my area is practically buying anyways! Thanks so much for the comparisons and sharing your experience!
