Um yea I would be suing the s*** out of Walgreens! I used to take these, to get high back in my active addiction days. If someone who doesn't abuse drugs took a whole one of these you would be so high off your ass that you would literally be sick. And with you being pregnant that is some serious s*** ! That is not okay what so ever. They could have caused you to have an overdose cause some idiot pharmacy tech was in a rush and didn't read correctly!
I just read the update... Did you pay the first time? If so, did they refund you? Do you have a picture without the purple paper covering the information of the other person? That person deserves to know about the incident too. Their information was given to a complete stranger! I definitely would not have given them the medication back without mounds of proof that they had given it to me and I had reported it and shown as many authorities as possible. I really hope this gets handled better from here on out, because mistakes like this should never happen, period. Absolute negligence!
Walgreens is really messed up. My stepdaughter's bm was given an entirely different prescription once. Didn't even have her name on it. They settled for $250 or something like that because they said she was at fault for taking the pills without checking the bottle first. I think she was supposed to have an antidepressant or antianxiety medication, but was given a heart medication. I'd call Walgreens and file a police report. Obviously, they need to update their system to prevent this from happening. That's so dangerous! I used to work in a pharmacy as a pharmacy tech, so I know how strict the protocols are. Our system was more advanced though, because you would have to have a team of idiots to mess it up like that.
I wouldnt have gave them the pills. They wanted them back to hide their tracks and knew if another walgreens possibly found out what they did, then they would call someone and report it. And not charging you. Yup definitely wanted thw incident and figured you werent going to do anything since you got your medication for free
Under the purple paper is the other persons name i didnt want to violate their privacy. The only reason i didnt notice sooner is because when i get a perscription from walgreens its in a white paper bag that is stapled shut with the medication info paperwork stapled to the outside and they just scan that paper. It was easy enough to notice though because my prescription was for 60 green pills and i recived a factory sealed bottle from the pharmicutical company, it wasnt even in a regular perscription bottle. I just think if i noticed a pharmacist should have too. After talking with a corporate pharmacy manager they want me to go back monday and fill out an incident report which i will do.
So after calling walgreens yesterday and explaining that I was given the wrong meds, they acted like it was no big deal and told me "just bring back the other prescription and we'll make sure you get your medication" well of corse I planned on returning the other persons medication so I told them I could be there Wednesday morning as this pharmacy is almost an hour away in my home town because I was visiting my parents Tuesday. That seemed to anger them and they started acting like I did something wrong explaining that the medication I had was a controlled substance and I could get in trouble for even having it. I was just shocked by how it was handled and how rude they were so I offered to return the prescription to my local walgreens but they told me that was unacceptable and they needed the pills backs. I was inconvenienced enough by this already and took them back this morning when I had time. All they did was make an excuse about a prior authorization and our last names being similar they took back the prescription that I had and gave me mine and when I tried to pay for it they said there's no charge your good....now that part seemed really weird to me, it's like they don't want me to have a record of being there or having those meds ( thank god for my BB pics lol) so I decided to keep my mouth shut at the store and called the Walgreens corporate pharmacy office and after talking with about 4 people they said they would be returning my call ASAP. Still waiting Walgreens....very sketchy...
The medication won't harm the baby. I work in a pharmacy and have had many a pregnant women on this medication and doctors were aware they are pregnant. But definitely a huge fault on walgreens. Make a formal complaint and they will have to report it to the pharmacy district manager. I'm so sorry about the mix up. That's on the pharmacist. They are the ones who verify this stuff. That'stheir job not to be negligent
I saw an awful episode of a show once where a little boy died because he was taking the wrong medication prescribed because the pharmacy filled it wrong. Ever since then, I always look at my pills first. The prescription paper thing and the bottle usually tells you what the pills should look like and now I always check because that's a terrifying thing that could happen.
Mrseverin she wouldn't have overdosed, but it's still a horrible error that the pharmacy made and needs to be held accountable for.
Eta my bfs mother accidently ate 2 thinking they were advil. She started to feel sick and weird and went to the hospital (they put together what happened). They said it wouldn't harm her & she just had to feel off for a couple days while she waited for it to clear her system.
It's kind of irrelevant whether or not it's safe for pregnant women. The fact is that the medication she was given was not the medication she was prescribed. Different types of medication can have different affects on different people and the dosages vary from person to person. So yes they made a huge mistake. I would call and complain.
What if the medication was for her child and she didn't think to check the prescription?
And $3.50 store credit for being given the wrong prescription. That is seriously laughable.
Update? There is no way I would trust the company to deal with their mistake internally! Of course they would want to keep it to themselves. They need to be reported, someone needs to be held accountable.
I'd call their corporate, have it documented, print, and mail it in as well, save a copy. Then report it to the Board of Pharmacy for your state, that's pharmaceutical malpractice. Yes mistakes happen, but this is major and your are pregnant. If you want you could get a free consultation from a local law firm before you take any action, if you are thinking of suing. The company would definitely move to settle.
You call the pharmacy and tell them about the mistake and that you are coming in and would like to talk to the pharmacy manager. Was someone else's name on the bottle? They have no choice but to fill out a report about the error and it gets sent to corporate, your dr is notified, etc... if it was someone else's lable it is also hipaa...
I'm glad you did what every responsible adult should do and read the lable, pamphlet, and look at what you are injesting. The error should not have happened.
This is the #1 reason why I refuse to use Walgreens. In my area their service has taken a huge slide. Definately call the manager and get in touch with corporate. This is a good reminder to always, always double and triple check your prescriptions when you get them. The Walgreens in my area is notorious for giving out the wrong and even expired meds.
Wow I'm dumbfounded this even happened. I used to work as a tech at Walgreens and they even make you scan the bottle you use and the patient leaflet into a machine that makes sure the NDC numbers match. Unless filled by the big machines but even then I don't see how that happened.
I assure you Walgreens does have a policy for that. Please take it back up there and let them know. They'll have to open up what's called a STAR incident and it will get taken care of. I'm sorry that happened!
This is a controlled substance. I'm shocked that this happened. Someone is definitely losing their job over this boo boo. Although, subutex is "safe" to take while pregnant, and by safe I mean it's a class C like most other drugs, so if you had accidentally taken some your baby would most likely have been fine. Although you may have ended up ill, as it's a very strong drug to someone without a tolerance.
Winter while yes it is meant for pregnant addicts, it coukd still cause an addiction just like methadone does. The baby could be born addicted to the medication if she never would have noticed it and suffered from withdrawals and cps would have been involved. So no she wouldnt have been ok.
I just picked up a script at CVS and they had signs out stating that if the script they give you is expired bring it back and you'll get a $3.50 store credit. Now they have you completely wrong script I'm sure they have some type of policy in place where they have to correct their error. Definitely call them! Or take it right back in!
?? holy cow that's friggin insane!! Thanking every higher power that you checked before taking it! I kept having a ton of issues when I was taking my anti-seizure meds where in they'd try giving me generic instead of brand (I'd have grand mal seizures with genric).
But, two completely different meds?!? Oh I'd raise a ton of hell girl! Good luck!!
I've worked in pharmacy for 6 years, I've never seen someone get fired over a single dispensing error, especially since (luckily) you didn't take the med. However, you should definitely get a hold of the district manager. Usually I'd say "eh, it happens" but buprenorphrine is nothing to play with, especially when pregnant. You even seen a special number on your docs prescription when entering anything containing buprenorphrine, so that's even crazier. I'm so sorry that happened to you.
My husband is a corporate pharmacy manager for Walgreens. Something like this happened in his pharmacy as well let's just say a lot of people got fired. I'll ask my husband about this once he wakes up if you want Op I can ask him for as much info and number for you and who you can speak with
What you were given is Subutex/Suboxone which is a narcotic, used to treat opioid withdrawal. Your RX was for Wellbutrin, which is a huge difference. I'd contact the Pharmacy manager & let them know about the mix up. It would be their job to then track down who dispensed the RX & deal with them accordingly. You would only have a legal case if you actually ingested anything & were harmed as a result. It's a good thing you noticed first!
I will be calling first thing I. The morning I didn't notice until a little bit ago, I didn't even think about the other person...they will definitely feel this mistake when I am done with this.mi mean the names of the medication are similar but they are pharmacists and should pay a lot more attention to detail
Wont "harm" the baby?! I guess that depends on the individual's personal opinions on what "harm" is. This is an opioid substitution, lasts longer in your system than heroin. I dare to say it's just as bad. There are so many babies born addicted to opiates. ? I hate drugs, I hate the disgusting and selfish excuses for humans that try to justify exposing their children to it. My mom counseled at a crisis pregnancy center, I volunteered there. There are things I've seen that I couldn't believe.
To say that drug won't cause harm? Oh man...? Ohhh man. I just have to...?
Again, I'm so thankful you caught the error before taking them op.
