Breast feeding / alcohol

Okay moms, what are the rules when it comes to breast feeding and alcohol? Everything online I read says not to drink and until baby is 3 months and to only have one beverage like a beer or a glass of wine. I don't want a glass of wine I want the whole bottle ? but really what are the rules?

It used to be an hour per glass of wine/beer/shot of liquor. I usually wait until he just finished nursing a lot then drink as long as I know he won't be nursing for a bit. Like he will go to sleep at 9pm and I will have a couple glasses of wine and he doesn't wake up till midnight or so. Depends on how often they nurse. Not much alcohol goes to your milk but it's typically ok to drive, ok to nurse. They sell testing strips that test alcohol levels in breastmilk

Thanks ladies. My boyfriend is being a freak about it and telling me the drink will effect the baby. But everything I read says it's fine just wait a few hours to nurse. And obviously don't over do it.

Yep if you're ok to drive you can drink. The milk filters through the milk the same as the blood so you don't have to pump and dump. You can pump to relieve pressure if you won't be nursing baby but don't need to pump all the milk out

I had a margarita this weekend. Waited 3 hours and nursed. I'll have a glass of wine occasionally and wait 2 hours to nurse!

I've been reading that it's about 2 hours of wait time after each drink, just to be sure. I miss my wine too, but I'm hoping to get her used to breastfeeding before I introduce a bottle, then hopefully I can interchange between both so I can have a little freedom to indulge in another glass while she drinks from the pumped supply.

LO is 7 weeks and I had a mixed drink...I just waited 2 hours. If I want wine I drink a glass right after she eats so I know I have 2-3 hours before she eats...but I don't drink often only 2x..but both times I only had 1 drink...

I wait a couple hours per drink. I also have testing strips that test breast milk for alcohol which I always use if I have had a drink, just to make sure. I am pumping and bottle feeding so it is easy to test the pumped milk. I have never had a test come back positive.

I was told 2 is fine & that beer can also help increase your supply

I also read about waiting til 3 months. From what I've read also it says for every drink to wait two hours. A drink being a glass of wine or a beer. I had one beer and it wasn't quite two hours before I nursed again and I noticed my babies were fussy as if the milk tasted bad ...

I know like a drink or 2 is ok. Anything after that, its like you pump and dump for every drink after that, well at least that's what I did with my first, haven't really drank with this one just yet. Just a stout here and there cuz I heard they help with milk production (worth a shot lol)

If you're good to drive, you're good to feed.
