Not getting as much milk

I breast feed my baby and I pump 1-2 times a day just to have milk for when we go out. I usually always get atleast 2 oz from each side and mornings 4-5 from one side. I am barley getting an oz each time now. I'm 6 weeks pp. I have no idea why the sudden change. My boobs usually feel so engorged if I miss feeding or pumping for even 2-3 hours. Yesterday I was out shopping didn't feed or pump for 5-6 hours and my boobs didn't even hurt or feel that full. What is happening ?

Try fenugreek pills(if not allergic) and keep pumping and feeding!

It's a bummer when you want to leave and worry about feeds. I've done the same thing. I'll feed then try and pump in case he's hungry before I get back and I say well he can live on that till I'm back. I try to base leaving him behind on feed times. Always try to nurse right before I leave. It helps. I know what you mean tho about the full breast. Mine feel deflated most of the time now lol last night I pumped 3oz out of a boob I thought was empty (by feeling them) so it's all a game with breastfeeding :)

@emc3 thank you for that! That makes me feel more confident. I only pump to have milk for when we leave the house so pumping isn't the most important part but I still need atleast some. He's definitely gaining weight and having wet diapers all day. My boobs just don't feel nearly as full anymore. But I'm glad to know it's somewhat normal.

Kori, FWIW, my oldest was ebf 15 months and I did not have the full/engorged feeling at all after 8 weeks. I even went back to pre pregnancy breast size. What you are going through sounds normal. It's frustrating to respond less to pumping (I definitely experienced that!) but don't start thinking your drying up! Unless you have weight loss or fewer soiled diapers, you are good -- it's just hard to trust that against the ounces/numbers game we get caught up in. Plus breast milk changes composition throughout the first year, often concentrating nutritional needs, so ounces are not a fair measurement across the board.

Your milk supply is just finally starting to regulate. Don't feel bad you're still producing enough. Just won't feel engorged anymore. Because your body starts to produce what baby needs. When you get more it's because the pump.

@mbard37 that makes me feel better. Up until about a week ago he was cluster feeding non stop but now he's eating every 2-3 hours so maybe he is getting more at each feeding! My boobs just don't feel full. But when he eats he doesn't cry or act like there's a problem so I know he's still getting milk. I just wish I could pump more so when I wanna go out somewhere. I wanted to go to target last night and couldn't get more than an ounce so I didn't go lol. I'll just keep pumping as much as I can.

That is all normal! Your baby could be taking in more milk now at the breast so you wouldn't pump as much. Also, your breasts adjust to the milk so you shouldn't be getting that super engorged feeling like you did the first few weeks. My breasts don't really ever get super firm anymore and I am still ebf and my son is over 14lbs at 6 weeks old so clearly he's eating well. Not all pump sessions respond well to the pump. And when you stress, it lowers how much you pump as well. When I try to pump and the baby is crying I get like nothing. I relax for a few minutes and try again, and bam, milk! I usually only pump once before bed and the amount I get changes everyday.

@bensmomma yeah it makes me wanna cry. Because I don't wanna have to stop breast feeding. It's just weird how it feels like I have nothing even in my boobs. When I squeeze my nipple milk will come out but my boobs seriously feel so deflated.

That's fairly normal in the 6-8 week period when supply starts to regulate.
