Spit up
How much is to much? And how do I tell the difference between spit up and throw up? My baby is breast fed and he's been spitting up a lot lately. Like already 5 times this morning and it's a lot. He gets it all over him and all over me. He kept acting hungry so I would feed him but he would spit it all up every time. I'm thinking he might have some kind of acid reflux because sometimes he will whine a little before it comes up like it hurts but other times he acts fine while he does it so I'm confused.

@bensmomma we went to the dr today. They think it could be reflux. She told me to cut out all dairy, caffeine and greasy foods and to make sure I sit him up right for 15-30 each time he eats and when he's eating and my let down comes to take him off the boob for a minute. He goes back in 4 weeks for his 2 month apt so she said we'll see how he is then and if he's not any better we'll start medicine. Cutting out all those things sucks tho I basically can't eat anything I usually eat lol.
@bensmomma I started cutting out dairy as of yesterday so I'll see how it goes and then I'll make him an apt. The last few days it has been a lot more than normal and he seems to be upset when he does it. He'll get fussy and then spit up. And he does the clearing his throat thing a lot I noticed since I've started paying more attention. I also had a bunch of dairy in the foods I ate the last few days so maybe that could have something to do with it. I'll see if it gets better. Thank you ?
@bensmomma he does seem like he's trying to clear his throat sometimes and he does sound congested to me too. I'll have to ask about it. Maybe I should make him an appt.
My 5 weeker spits up almost after every feed. He's EBF too. The lactation consultant I see weekly and our pedi say it's normal and usually looks like much more spit up than it is. I always burp right after feeds but move him very gently to not upset his tummy. He does have a rattle sound in his throat sometimes which is a sign of reflux, according to the pedi, but he doesn't have other signs to indicate that he needs to be treated for reflux because he's a happy spitter.
We just always have burp cloths around and a change of clothes for both of us in the diaper bag.
My daughter is going the same. Except more and.m her pediatrician said nothing to worry about as long as they're still eating. Some babies go through a spitting up stage around 5 weeks and can last awhile. Only worry if your baby stops eating and isn't peeing enough or pooping.
