Anybody switch to Medicaid during pregnancy?

I currently am on my moms insurance which is Cigna, but I just applied for Medicaid because at my dr appt yesterday at the end they had me meet with this lady and went over my delivery charges and stuff according to what my insurance covers. They have never mentioned anything about these payments to me before until now. I'm 21 weeks and she said it had to be paid off by my 7th month, and the payments are 466$ a month. So at my next visits I have to pay 466$ To them each time or they won't see me? There's no way I can afford that. So if anyone switched to Medicaid how long did it take? I'm unemployed and not married so I heard it shouldn't take to long especially being pregnant.

I have bcbs insurance, and pregnant Medicaid. It took 10 days for approval. I did my app over the phone through DFACS for my state.

Some states let you apply online.

I tried to apply but couldn't get it because I already have bcbs insurance. Had to pay $1200 for my part of the prenatal care. I had to put it on a credit card because I can't afford their monthly payments and it had to be paid by 6mos ?

I have the same problem I have until March to pay it but I don't have to pay it till then. Just my copay. I was told it takes 14-15 days after filling out application to be accepted. With my son I didn't get Medicaid till I was at the hospital getting ready to be induced.

I suggest going in person to complete your application. It was a long wait and you need all your documents ready, but they approved me on the spot last year. A year before that I applied online to my states medicade it took 2 or 3 weeks to get approved.

Yes girl it is! I love my ob but its just so annoying that this was never mentioned to me before now! When I'm 5 months pregnant! Thank you tho!!

That would be so frustrating! I don't get why a lot of others drs will take payment plans but not some obs. Hope the Medicaid comes through quickly for ya.

Hope it goes smoothly for you!

Totally understandable, I would have quit too! I hope it doesn't take long cause my next appt is march 3rd. And I don't wanna put it off but they won't see me unless I make the payment and there's just no way. That's a lot of money for me to throw out especially with no warning. They never mentioned anything like this until my appt Friday so I was like ????? My cousin is pregnant and has the same ob as me and has Medicaid and said she doesn't have to pay a dime. But I hope the final process speeds up for you & you get everything figured out !! ❤️❤️

Not married. Just engaged. I had to quit my job. The stress and a hostile manager wasn't good for me, being a high risk pregnancy. Plus my son having issues with daycare, etc. So I applied as soon as I quit. I made a mistake applying so I called and they did it all over the phone. She figured out my last paychecks, etc and inputted everything. I just had to submit a scanned copy of my last 2 stubs which, I did the very next day. She told me that day that I was approved and to give it 5-7 days for my paystub verification and for e everything to process. So I did. It took 7 days. Then took another week for my to get some cards that say to keep with me at all times. Says a week later I should get my packet to pick a plan like Amerigroup, Priority Partners, etc. So, now I have to wait for that, pick something, send it all back in and wait for all of that. I am supposed to be switching Ob's and hospitals as well so this whole process needs to speed it up a bit.

My insurance through work was OUTRAGEOUS. It was a 1000 a month plan, and on top of that, I still had to pay full price for everything until my deductible, which was 7000. My son's inhaler is 90.00 for one, and he needs 2 and refilled every 3 weeks. So I am kind of glad I was approved for now.

@dreaminofnow dang that sucks. Are you married or employed? I heard it's a longer process when you have to provide more info. But I'm single and unemployed so I think it should be easy.

Yeah that's what I'm saying, I applied for Medicaid so I don't have to make any payments. With Cigna the insurance I have now they're asking for almost 500$ a month starting next visit and I can't do that. So I applied for Medicaid to get it covered.

I don't understand. I don't have to make payments and I'm on Medicaid and also my husband's insurance which is Aetna. You can have 2 insurances..

I switched. I applied Jan 17th and was approved but, I JUST got my cards and have yet to get my packet to pick a plan. I am 2 weeks overdue for my next appointment, too ?

I have a high deductible plan through my work and have state Medicaid as a secondary plan. It's a nice backup and was pretty easy to get on since I'm pregnant.

Yeah she went over it all with me. I won't meet my deductible until this is all paid. There's no way I can pay $1400 unexpectedly before my 7th month when I'm already 5 months pregnant. That's just not gonna happen. I especially can't cough up $466 out of no where by my next visit either. So hopefully the Medicaid doesn't take long to get approved.

Did you talk to them about your deductible and coverage? I panicked at first cause the ob was going to have me pay over 4K, also due by so many weeks. My deductible is low (which will def be covered by June) and my % is also low. So I'm only having to pay as I go.

I'm not sure how it works if you're already insured but mine covered all the way to my conception date so it handled any visits and medical expenses from the neginning. They also paid for a root canal. Turns out medicaid offers vision and dental too

I just had a similar problem and had to apply for Medicaid for pregnant women. It took two weeks to get approved.

It shouldn't take long at all! I'm on Medicaid because hubby just took a new job where we had to buy our own. I didn't think I'd qualify but they said way more people qualify when pregnant. Definitely look into it because everything is covered

I applied, but sadly my husband and I "make too much." Which is total bull, because with these expensive doctor visits, we're struggling. It sucks.

I have Blue care network and straight Medicaid.. it only took me about 3 weeks to be approved for Medicaid and you can keep both insurances Medicaid will just cover what your primary insurance does not.

I did the same just looked for Medicaid in my state and applied and i was on pregnancy medicaid...my daughter was on it after i had her for a year

Starting TWW. Anyone else?

I had a stillborn daughter at 38 weeks this passed Nov. This is my second month ttc. (Last month we only tried for like two weeks though). My last and only pregnancy, I got pregnant the first month of ttc so I hope it's quick this time again.

leahbeth I'm so sorry :( hopefully your cycle continues and you get another shot next month.
