need advice and help
So i figured this place would be the best place to get advice. Let me start off by saying my newborn is now 8 weeks old. My brother and his gf got caught up going back to jail. Found out his gf is pregnant, with my brothers baby. I found out she will be in there for at least 8 months to 16 months. My brother at least a year. Meaning when the baby is born. The baby will have to go to foster care, or cps since shes in jail or she has the option of giving it to me since im the only family she knows and no one Else on my side would do it. Her mom lives in a different country and her dad is in prision. So my question is it bad that im saying i would take care of the baby until they r out. I said 3 rules they have a place when they get out for the baby. Next making sure 100 percent my brothers dna test. And third getting finacial assistance since i already have 2 kids. What do u all think?

Yes i should find out i tried calling cps to figure out the process but werent able to answer my questions.
Call your local wic and just ask them about assistance, they may have counselers that can help you know what is all available to you or at least point thou in the right direction. You may be considered foster parents and cps may pay you for that, but not sure if it's family verse unrelated baby. I think it's a freest thing you are doing making sure the little one gets a good start despite parents bad choices.
Yes thats very true. Its very hard situation to be in. Its a tough situation to be in. I want to do it for the sake of the child but its a huge responsibility, as we all know since we just had a baby. I just dont know how my children and family will be.
Well since she’s in jail, seems like both the jail and CPS will be involved. I’m sure you’ll have to sign a whole bunch of documents transferring temporary custody and guardianship to you. So I’d really ask them all your questions since it involves a whole bunch of legal stuff. It’s not like she’s going to have her baby and a cop at the prison is just going to hand her/him to you and send you on your way.
When you and the CPS officer are writing up all the custody stuff, make sure you address your rules that you want. You should also plan on keeping the baby much longer than anticipated. They aren’t just going to give custody back the day they get out of jail. They are going to most likely going to have to go into a rehab program or show they completed one in jail and the keep attending AA and/or NA classes once they get out, get a job, and get a place to live to prove they are capable of caring for their child. If they can’t do that, you could have the baby indefinitely but I would at minimum estimate another 3-6 months once they are released.
Thank you. The part i dont get is how i would get assistance, if baby isnt technically mine she said basicsllg would give her 24 hours to call me to pick up the baby. So sad the situation. The other part i worry about is if when they get out they think they can live with us.
