Why don't you get married where you live then you can have everyone there with you and not feel bad and then have a blessing abroad and invite whoever wants to come along with you?? That way you get your special day with your dad and your big dress and you can have a special day in the sun as well and wear a floaty dress if you don't want a big one ?

I will be wearing a proper wedding dress abroad and will also be wearing it along with the rest of my bridal party so everyone can see what we looked like, I'm getting married in kos called the holiday village and the hotel has there own wedding photographer onsite spa with hair and make up artist I'm sure a lot of hotels will offer this x

If you are not excited about it, don't do it. You're only going to get married once (hopefully ;) ), so you obviously want the day to be exactly the way you have always dreamt of.

I got married in Greece myself and I wore a proper dress, it was end of June and I can honestly say I wasn't hot. The hotel where we got married helped find a photographer, a makeup artist and a hair dresser. It was very stress free!

Oh And no matter what I'd be there for my kids wedding days too! Just wish he felt like that! X

That's how I feel! I can't do it without him there but oh is set on abroad. My dad couldn't afford to come but I would pay!! I know he would find some excuse tho! He's just like that! He missed a very important day for my sister and that was cos it was a 4 hour drive away! He said his leg was hurting and he couldn't walk! I think he's just set in his way now of being in his house or the betting shop or the pub or his brothers! That's all! I'd have to try and talk to him again when we decide to start planning things. I know it will cause a row but like some of you said it's mine and my oh day! For those that had a party when you got back? Or reception when home did you wear your dress? Xx

I'm getting married in Greece next August we chose a destination wedding because we didn't want to pay for all the aunts and cousins that crawl out and expect an invite when we never see them so it's just our children parents and my sisters the people that mean the most and then having s reception when we get home, my dad is 54 and never flown he doesn't think it's normal and has a horrible fear but I told him that's were we are getting married and he has to go now he's got all his deposits paid and is preparing him self to go his words was I'd never miss the most important day of your life no matter how scary the thought of flying is ? I wouldn't rule your dad out just tell him that's what happening and it would mean a lot for him to be there x

He's not even my real dad but he's been there since I was 18months and adopted me at 4 so I class him as my real dad! We're going to a wedding in Greece in august next year so that will help with how I feel about them being abroad as never been to one. But I don't think I could do it without him xx

Well my cousins hotel did loads of English food, steak, roast etc and she's having a party here in two weeks time which is probably costing about £1000 but then she's gone ott, it can be as cheap/expensive as you like although if you really don't think your dad would go then I wouldn't do it - I couldn't have got married without my dad walking me down the isle xx

Could you have a little wedding abroad and then have a church blessing back home, that way you get the church and your dad can still be there and you can wear a proper dress too :-) xx

I couldn't have got married without my dad there. We always said we'd do it abroad but in the end too many people we wanted there wouldn't have been able to go, so we did it here. And it was amazing. So much more than I could ever have imagined it would be. Good luck whatever you choose hun xxx

Would he not go for you? My cousin got married last week in Cyprus and had a proper wedding dress, you've just gotta stay away from silk and satin, she had a big princess dress with netting and a big hoop to keep her cool. I do wish sometimes we had got married aboard xx
