Zika
What is the procedure to get tested for Zika? I went to a pool party Saturday in a city that unbeknownst to me, had one case of Zika two weeks prior. I had insect repellant on, but I think I may have been bitten once. My son had a few bites and my husband says he didn't get bitten, but now I'm hesitant to have sex with him. I looked at the procedure on CDC website and it said if you had symptoms and live in an infected area (which had all of US) to get tested. I haven't had any symptoms but I'm worried. As if pregnancy isn't hard enough, now we have to worry about this!! This is going to be a long pregnancy!!
My dr is sending all his patients to get tested, I live in Miami, FL the kicker of it all is the health center that does the testing is in downtown which is dab smack in the middle of where the majority of the zika cases have been reported here. Needless to say I haven't gone yet and when I do I'll be making sure to bathe in repellant and wear long sleeves.
I called the health department and they don't provide Zika testing there. WHAT?!! I then called a clinic that I found in a Zika article and they didn't do it there either. Nobody could tell me where I could get tested. How do these people not know?!! Zika is a major concern for every pregnant woman. So that means, if people aren't getting tested in Corpus Christi, TX, there could be some cases undocumented. Oh well. I am going to try to relax and just pray baby is safe. There is nothing I can do now but prevent future bites. Thank you for all the responses. I hope all of you stay safe and wear long sleeves and OFF! to keep our little angels safe from this horrible virus.
I got tested. I am still waiting for the results, but here in NY you have to go to you primary care physician or your obgyn and they get some forms from the health dept. they fill out the forms, they asked me like 20 questions. Then they fax that back to the health dept and they decide if you are approved for being tested. Then the doc gives you a prescription to go to a lab and it was all covered by the state. So, I don't know where you live but this is the procedure here in New York. Good luck!
I wonder if an infected person is bitten, then bites someone else, if the other person would be infected....and so on and so on. In the town I was in, there was only one known case of a person that traveled out of country and got infected. But if she was bitten here while she was carrying the virus....or a mosquito bit her and laid eggs....is that possible? I'm going to be stressing about this my whole pregnancy ?
And I don't only have to take precautions for myself, I have to make sure hubby is, too. They really need to get this under control.
The nurse called me back today and said they don't test at their office so I would have to go to the health department. She said I shouldn't need anything from her. I need to call the health department now and see what they say.
I don't know why they don't test but I read that if you've been to a Zika infected area and have been bitten, even if you don't have any symptoms, to just take precautions as if you do have it. So in the case of pp you and your dh are doing the right thing by abstaining or you can just use condoms. But we all know they break so I guess celibacy is best.
Oh my goodness! That's ridiculous! 1 in 4 people actually show symptoms so why on Earth wouldn't they test him?! If they won't test him, who WILL they test?
My husband returned a week ago after being in Rio for two months. The CDC made the final decision NOT to test him, even after acquiring numerous mosquito bites while there AND exhibiting 3 of the 4 most pronounced symptoms. Needless to say, we are celibate at this point. It's not worth the risk to our baby. ?
I'm in TX and was visiting the Houston area. The person had left the country when she contracted it. I did call my doctor and left a message, but they haven't called me back yet. I know the chances may be slim, but I'm so worried. I can't believe a mosquito bite can change our whole lives!
As someone who has also been freaked out by all this Zika stuff, I totally feel your pain.
That said, I don't think you need to be too worried, especially if you live in an area with only one case. That means it's probably not being spread locally by mosquitoes at all. But to be on the safe side, call your OB and they can help you figure out if you should be tested.
So I asked this earlier and didn't get much feedback. Maybe there's more mommies on now? 🤔
My question is;
Are there any mommies here who have had a successful pregnancy with hypothyroidism??
I'm 6 weeks 1 day today, and I have zero pregnancy symptoms!!no nausea, no vomiting, no bloating, no frequent urination, no sore breasts (in the slightest), no fatigue !! I feel 100 percent not pregnant at all!! This is crazy, shortly after getting a positive my last pregnancy, I had it all... and was put on progesterone and that seemed to increase the intensity of my pregnancy symptoms. Well, I'm on progesterone this pregnancy already too. Have been for a week now and still nothing ! Is this no...

boy or girl????
food : burgers, potato salad , ramen noodles maybe a sweet every now and then.
symptoms : nausea. ( also I had nausea with all my pregnancies which I have boys and girls)
Oh no!! Maybe wait until next month when it's cooler and there aren't as many mosquitoes!!
