Thrush help
So I’ve seen the doc and we may go back. When I went they dosed her and me with one dose of gentian violet and said if it isn’t gone in a week to come back. Well everything I read that wasn’t enough but I gave it a few days and it seemed to keep spreading so I dosed is once a day for three days (last dose yesterday). So here’s the question for those who’ve used it. How long into you saw an improvement? I just checked in lo’s mouth and it’s the same. Still a large white patch and the drooling/tongue thrusting. Should I call tomorrow for some nyastatin or give it the weekend first?
Nystatin doesn't work at least it didn't for my son. What worked for him was swabbing his mouth with baking soda mixed with water at least 5 times a day for a week. It went away after 3 days but I did it for a week. I used a q-tip. I also sterilized everything that went in his mouth after every use with a microwace sterilizer but you can boil everything.
Oh and I took 10 days of diflucan while Wyatt was being treated. Make sure you treat yourself and baby at the same time otherwise you are passing it back and forth. Make sure you clean your nipples after every nursing session. Don't let wet nursing pads sit in your bra. I did a lot of braless time. Make sure you're washing your bras/shirts in hot water to kill the yeast as well. It's a pain in the ass. I'm actually surprised your doctor gave the violet. It's a very old school method and yeast have become resistant to it. Same with nystatin.
I never used the violet but we did 2 rounds of oral nystatin and it didn't work. I take a probiotic daily so I just broke open one of my capsules 2x a day and rubbed it in DS mouth. Thrush went away and never returned. Make sure you are boiling pacifiers, bottles, and anything else baby is putting in her mouth daily for at least 20 minutes. That's the only thing that kills the yeast.
Yeah I’ve started her on baby probiotics yesterday. But this gentian violet didn’t do a dang thing except destroy her jammies and my shirt.
