Nighttime potty disaster.

Well I decided to bite the bullet and give it a go. It was a nightmare last time, and it wasn't any better this time. I just don't know if he's ready. Here's what we did.

He gets to bed around 7. I had him do his normal night routine including peeing right before bed. (We had no water after dinner). I went in there around 12 to have him pee one last time, it was a little hard to wake him, and he was already soaked. He peed right off the waterproof mat onto the second set of bedding underneath so I had him go pee. He did pee and a lot. We changed the sheets and him and back to bed. Well this morning he gets up like usual and pees first thing, but he had peed in his sleep again. And still peed again in the toilet.

Who pees that much at night? And he slept right through it both times. I don't know what to do. I think I'm doing everything I'm supposed to. I just don't know if he just not ready yet but how is his body to learn? Oi

To clarify I'm not terribly worried about him yet. He isn't quite 5 yet anyway. I just want to help if I can and I'm not sure what the best route is. We'll give it a while a guess and if it doesn't get better I guess it just isn't time. I better brace for quite a bit of laundry I guess.

I think it's clear already that it isn't time. Some children take longer to night train than others. Put him in pull ups or goodnights for bedtime only. When he can stay dry through the night with those on, then you can transition to underwear. If you don't like those, then you can use training underwear and use a waterproof cover on them so he feels the wetness but it doesn't necessarily soak the bed.

My daughter had a more difficult time night training. I set the clock to take her potty every couple of hours for about a week. Eventually, her body got used to waking and she would do it on her own.

Our pediatrician said some kids aren't night trained until 6 or 7 because they sleep so hard their pee instinct doesn't wake them up. Our son will be 5 this month and still wears pull ups to bed because of accidents. The pediatrician also said that waking them up in the middle of the night doesn't tend to be effective unless you're absolutely certain of their exact pee schedule through the night. I wouldn't stress or rush it.

What pookie and yaya said. He's just not ready yet. I wouldn't keep waking him at night. I'd rather my child went to bed in goodnights and have a full nights sleep than constantly having them wake up to pee and have a crabby kiddo during the day.

My cousin wasn't night trained until he was 6 I wouldn't worry yet.

I agree he's not ready yet and waking them up at night teaches them to wee at night which is the exact opposite of what you want. I would use pull ups until he's dry through the night. 4 is still quite young for night training.

My son is 4 & potty trained really easily at 2 but still wears a pull up at night. From everything I've read it's normal.

I wet the bed at night until I was 12. But I had reflux in my kidneys and a few other kidney and bladder issues.

Yeah. I didn't think he was early but a lot of stuff on here made me think we had to try something lol. Oh well. I prefer using his cloth diapers to changing sheets three times a night. Seriously who pees that often?! Lol

My son potty trained at 2, wore a pull up for about a week to just bed. Has only wet the bed one time since. He's 4 and a half now. I guess I got lucky.

I'd just put him in a pull up or whatever and just wait until he starts waking up dry. Some kids are just heavy night time wetters...he will adjust

Could also be a really deep sleeper. My brother was the same at night time.

He'd sleep so deep he wouldn't ever remember being taken to toilet in night.
