Guess who’s back
Welp, my 1-hour glucose test came back with 198. This is my 2nd pregnancy - had GD w/my DD in 2015. I’m 18 weeks. They wanted me to take the 3-hour & I asked if I could just test as if I was diagnosed. The midwife called back & said yes. So I guess I’m back to testing.
@ciara - Were you diagnosed earlier this time around? I just started testing today, and my numbers are super low so far, but I’m thinking it’s only bc the GD hasn’t really developed. I’m only 18 weeks along, was originally diagnosed around 30 weeks last time.
I was not induced. I had an unmedicated birth 1 day before my due date. DD weighed 6 lbs 10 oz and neither of us had any issues w/sugar post-birth.
I am a 2nd timer too! But all my numbers were a lot better than my first time around on my blood draws. Where I am, if you fail the one hour you take a 2 hour test. On the 2 hour test my fasting number was 95 (the cutoff) and my 1 and 2 hour numbers were well below the target. But with the 2 hour, if you fail one draw you get diagnosed. With my first pregnancy I only passed the fasting on the 3 hour test! I’m finding it easier this time, aside from the dreaded fasting number haha. I’ve been following the same diet as last time and haven’t needed to do as much exercise to keep my numbers down. I don’t know if it’s because I’m less stressed about the diagnosis this time, but I guess every pregnancy is different!
Thanks for your comment, Sarah! I remember chatting with you the last time I was pregnant! Haha hi, again!
Sucks, doesn’t it? My midwife kinda got my hopes up, too, but just by telling me “You might not have it!” And even tho I tried not to listen, a small part of me had hope. I can’t imagine having my numbers be so close. That must’ve been so frustrating. Do you find it harder to watch the diet & exercise with another little one to care for? That’s my main concern now, going into this...
I felt the same way. I had it with my 2nd baby and knew I would again. But my Dr had my hopes up since my a1c had been perfect and no glucose in my urine. I barely failed the 1 hr and passed all but one draw of my 3 hr, but the others were borderline. So she diagnosed to avoid me taking it again later. My numbers have been much higher than last pregnancy, I'm on meds for fasting whereas I was diet controlled last time. All after thinking it might be easier since my test numbers were lower.
Mary- I was diagnosed at about 26 weeks so not super early but my doctor also didn’t make me take the glucose test until then and was just monitoring my a1c which was normal. The only number that has given me any problems is my fasting number which was the same as last pregnancy. I’ll be 37 weeks on Saturday and have had no other high numbers.
