Middle of the night meltdown
Middle of the night meltdown
So my DD is a pretty easy baby, but always has a long awake stretch in the middle of the night, lately around 4-6 am. It's driving me crazy that I can't lull her to sleep at this time. So early this morning I tried everything- cradled her in bed, laid her flat in bed with me (she likes that), rocked her in my glider in her nursery in the dark, all while sushing or using a white noise machine- nothing was working. Finally went back to bed and handed her to my husband before rolling over and crying. This has happened before, and my husband says it kind of scares him when I lose my patience - even tho I always pass her off before losing my cool. I would never take out my frustration on my LO.

Swaddling. My baby fights the swaddle but calms down and sleeps

I'm in the same boat. My lo will be 2 months on the 21 st. She is a night owl, and it is very difficult for me to get her to sleep at night. And, I've got a 2 year old dd who wakes me promptly at 8am every morning (about 30 min after I finally get the baby down). It is getting very difficult to function on little to no sleep for days on end. To make matters worse, I go back to work on Saturday. Not sure how I'm gonna make it.

Hang in there! For weeks on end our hardest feeding was the 4am feeding. During growth spurts he would be awake from 4-6 ... Sometimes even 3-7. I too ended up in tears a few times. In our case it was only temporary... He's 7 weeks now and started sleeping 1:30-6:30am.
Some nights I would turn on Netflix while nursing to help pass the time - it's a very trying phase but remember it's just a phase!
Sometimes an ounce or two of formula would settle him - a full belly goes a long way to adding extra sleep time!

I think every mum has been through this. With my first when things get too hard to handle, I just put bub in the cot, and take 5 minute breather. Just go outside clear my head. Bub crying for 5 min won't kill them.

Mine is doing this too and he's almost a month old. Same time frame. I think it's a growth spurt. I just settle in my recliner and put a movie on while rocking him and comfort nursing, even if it means I end up nursing him for 3 or 4 hours straight. He will sleep in my arms/while nursing and that is it when he's like that. No swaddling, pacifier, white noise, rock n play, bouncer, etc will work during those phases for us.

Thanks for all of the responses! Glad I'm at least not the only one going thru this...
I am breastfeeding,
And we swaddle but leave her crazy little ninja arms out since she always breaks them free, anyway. It's been like that since the hospital. Even the nurses couldn't get her arms to stay in so they said to just leave her like that.
