Increasing protein intake
Hi, ladies! I just spoke with the nurse at my first prenatal appt. While I'm very health conscious already, eating plenty of fruits and veggies (mostly vegetarian, no red meat or pork and rarely have chicken/ turkey/fish), she said I should be getting 76 grams of protein per day! How does anyone do that? I've had plenty of meals and snack today and I've only hit 62 (trying!) Any tips? I've already had eggs, cheese, Greek yogurt, and cannellini beans today. Do any of you get that much every day?

I just started taking a HempPro - a hemp based protein shake. I make it with banana and frozen berries.

I go for > 100g protein/day with greek yogurt, cheese sticks, eggs, chicken, salmon, protein bars, Nutribullet blasts & Atkins shakes.
I aim for 1 gram of protein per lb body weight. That's how I stay lean on a normal basis. Why don't you try a protein shake? There are natural ones you can take while pregnant.
100 grams is a better guideline in my opinion.
I have a strawberry complan protein shake every lunchtime and a bannana filles with vitamines & protein !
Cottage cheese would be a good addition! High protein, low cal ?
My midwife wants me to aim for 90 grams a day! But I eat meat. I eat tons of eggs! Egg yolks can be eaten raw, so I throw those in a smoothie some days and save the eggwhites for scrambles and such. Brown rice, beans, quinoa, cheese, hemp, quality protein powders, 22Days protein bars(all vegan and 20 grams of protein per bar. Bulk order online!).
Do you eat 4-5 bananas a day? Isn't that too much potassium?
My dr just told me I needed to up my protein intake as well (I am vegan). Just posted this on another thread but this is what I have been eating for breakfast- all you need is a blender:
4-5 ripened bananas
2 cups hemp milk
3 tablespoons of hemp protein power
Chia seeds
Add ice or freeze some of your bananas. It has a thick milkshake like consistency and somewhat nutty flavor - so good! And to mix it up, I will add handful of kale or berries.
Also Whole Foods sells a line of vegan products called Field Roast Brand that are soy free. The "sausages" have 20 grams of protein each and they are yummy. You can cut up and sauté them and make with tofu scramble. Or just eat with some bread. Tempeh is also great.
I also eat lots of quinoa/beans.
I need a recommendation for protein shake or supplement. . Barely getting 40 grams..
I drink a soy protein shake by shaklee. I'm also a meat eater and it seems like this kid wants tons of protein. I just ate a bunch of cashews at 1:30am lol
Wow 76 seems like a lot! The foods you named are quite high in protein already but I recommend hemp seeds, nut butters, and quinoa as good sources of protien. Also tempeh is supposed to have very high protein but I've never tried it
I aim for 100 grams of protein per day but meat is included in my diet. Other sources to try are egg whites (I like to scramble them with cheese for flavor and even more protein), a quality protein powder, quest bars, broccoli, Power Cakes protein pancake mix, cottage cheese
