contemplating epidural

I've never had a epidural on any of my four kids but im getting anxiety all of a sudden abt the pain I've endured... and now all a sudden I'm contemplating an epidural. It's weird because I've never second guessed it. But now i find myself interested in getting it. Have any of you ever have a epidural or pain meds during labor? And do you have to get a catheder put in if you do get it?

I had an epidural and ended up being in labor for many hours and needing a c-section due to the baby's position. For my personal experience, I was so glad that I got one because if not, I would have went through all that labor pain and then I would have needed one anyway for the c-section. I did get a catheter and I think my hospital makes everyone get one who has an epidural. I didn't feel it coming out at all. I also made a game time decision when I got my epidural. You can see how fast everything is going and how painful it is and decide at the moment.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but I wouldn't want one unless I had a crazy long labor. I had my first unmedicated, and even though it was crazy painful, I wouldn't want an epidural. The potential side effects and higher chance of leading to other interventions just isn't something that I'd choose over the pain. I think it's a reasonable choice though if you really want one. :)

I can relate. I had my son natural . Well just an iv . I want to do the same this time but I find myself getting afraid also. So I'm gonna see how it goes. Stay open to it but hope to not ? I had my son in.20 mins so if it's like that this time I would Hate to have an epidural because of horror stories but if I need it ..it's there .

My hospital make a ypu get a th with the epidural but in all honesty I would rather habe an epidural and Cath then be in all that pain. My last baby was the only one I had an epidural with and much better than the first two. As long as it works the first time this time I'm good with it.

Epidural was a GODSEND when I had ds! My water broke naturally but I had no contractions so they started me on cervadil. My Labour stalled at 3 cm and after 10 hours I begged for it. They gave me a small dose as they thought it would stall my labour further but 15 minutes later I was at 10cm and ready to go! The dose felt perfect to me though because i could still feel the pressure of the contractions they just didn't hurt. I had a catheter but didn't feel it going in or out.

It depends on if your getting pitocin or not. I've gone both ways and the epidural was by far the hardest for me to get over but after being given pitocin I caved and got it bc the pain was soooooo excruciating. My easiest recovery was the no epidural no pitocin labor. Deff the way to go if at all possible. The epidural dropped my blood pressure and I passed out and blood pressure bottomed during delivery. Baby was really sick after.

I have two children & with both I had a epidural. The first was awful experience. In labor for 29 hours with d epidural it was d most annoying thing ever. It felt as though my lower part of my body was sleep like a annoying feeling. I tried natural with my second & asked for a epidural at 7 centimeters due to bad back labor. It slowed my labor down a lot. Afterwards I needed assistance using d restroom & walking. It wasn’t painful coming out. This time around I want to try natural.

Had epidural 3 out of 4 birth and plan on doing it this time also. Baby number 3 just came too fast. Was not that bad getting or removing. Felt more in control from not having all the pain.

I got an epidural with my dd. And yes I had a catheter. It wasn't all bad. It wasn't painful getting it removed, just uncomfortable after. Also I couldn't use the bathroom on my own. The nurses had to support me the first couple times going to the bathroom after giving birth.

I'm getting another epidural so obviously wasn't that bad lol.

I just watched "Natural Born Babies" yesteday on Amazon Prime. It was very informative and it might answer some of your questions.

Catheter does depends but no u can’t feel them taking it out but it’s very uncomfortable my 1st I was in labor for 9 hrs and had the epidural for 9 hrs with her so that’s y I had one in and it was uncomfortable but my other 2 baby came so quick like in 5 min the moment I ask for epidural so I didn’t get one with them but am doing water birth at a birthing centre and every time I think of me not been near a epidural I get massive anxiety but I guess it’s normal

I did get an epidural with my son, no catheter but I had fluids. I pretty much spent the whole time laying in bed after that. It didn't work well for me, still felt contractions on my right side. Then my leg went asleep... I could not focus well and needed a lot of coaching as to when to push because things were numb. Things down there were very tingly and numb days after giving birth (not sure if that's normal regardless of epidural?) Many people say pushing is the best part because you feel like you're working towards something, it feels good (?) And you feel your baby coming. I'm sad I didn't feel that, I felt disconnected and a bit lost. I ended up giving birth on my back with legs up while pushing because I didn't feel the need to do anything else, because I was just laying in bed. I had just planned to be more connected but my cervix was not dilating and I was exhausted from laboring two days so I needed to rest and the epidural helped.

Did you feel it when they took it out

Yes I've had an epidural with all 4 of my baby's and plan to get one this time around also. They do put a catheter in but they do mine after I've had the epidural so I don't feel it!

I've never met such a nasty group of females. Tearing other woman down, for what!? Do you feel better about yourself! While the rest of the world is fixing each other's crowns you bunch are knocking other woman's off. Shame on you hope if you have daughters they never run across a female like you.
