Boobs!!

My boobs are so painful I'm dreading every feed, what can I use to make them stop hurting so much? My milk has just started to come in. I plan on getting some nipple cream but can't get it till tomorrow I really want to stick at breast feeding so want to sort them out before it comes unbearable thanks x

Ouch I remember this. Are you in hosp now? Squeeze some milk on your boobs between feeds, let them air dry. Your milk will help heal them a little. Lasinoh when you can get it x

I remember it well. Make sure baby has a really wide open mouth before latching on so that they don't just nipple feed. Maybe try the rugby hold position or feeding lying down so baby it at a different angle.

It is a real row curling pain for the first few seconds at first which is quite common. Good luck with it. There's a UK breastfeeding support group on here too x

I had this with my little one I was crying every time I feed her it was that painful. Her latch was perfect and cream didn't help. I know have to use nipple shields for every feed. I haven't had any pain since I started using them. Started using them when she was a few weeks old she's now 13 weeks and still breastfeeding happily. Hope you get it sorted soon.

I found feeding in the laid back position (it's also called nurturing/biological position) good for latch. Lansinoh nipple cream is good. Just to begin with you do get 30 seconds of toe curling pain but it gets better. Now your milk has come in then that should help with being uncomfortable. Always remember never give up on a bad day. I bf my toddler for 19.5 months and I'm currently bf my 10 week old. It's so easy now. Has been for the last month. His even feeding the same times as my ff friends babies at night who are the same age. There are about 9 of us with babies all the same age, give it take a few weeks. 3 of us bf and 3 of the others did it for a few days some 3/4 weeks and stopped and wish they never as they have had trouble with formula and has been put in special milk and for the ease of it too. Ask for lots of help too x

Look on YouTube for videos of the 'flipple' technique, helps to get your nipple right to the back of baby's mouth which should stop the pain! Remember bf is so hard in the beginning, nobody tells you that bit! It's so worth it in the end though and get so much easier! I'm still breastfeeding my 8 month old and never expected to last this long. Your doing great!

Definitely do the counting to 10. As it's usually only the initial latch that hurts!! And look into getting some cream. And let the air get to your nipples as much as you can!! It will all be fine soon!! Oh and actually putting breast milk on your nipples and letting air dry helps too!! Xx

It was due to that pain I had to stop. The latch was checked by 9 people and was perfect every time. Tried different positions, shields, cream and nothing stopped the pain ?

Honestly this pain does not last, you can do this mummy! I found the avent cream better as it's softer and easier to apply, definitely let your nipples air dry and also squeezing a little of your own milk onto them will help, I do remember curling my toes and gritting my teeth in the early days but after failing to bf my first I was adamant I would get through it

There should be specialist breastfeeding helpers visiting new mums that need help, midwives aren't qualified to say the latch is right and neither are gps, it's quite frustrating, I would love to set up a free service that's available to all new mums xx

Well I've been doing the rugby ball position and it seems to be the best way to feed with little pain. Feeding from the front is just agony I can't do it the midwife is due today so will be asking her for some help and to make sure she is latched properly thankyou everyone no one tells you how hard breastfeeding is to begin with! Xxx

I Agree. Don't give up - by day ten you shouldn't get anymore pain. I found hand expressing the initial let down of milk helped so when I latched baby the shock wasn't so intense. It is so hard at first but power through it's SO worth it ???

Agree with others that it gets better! I'm 11 weeks in and don't get that cringe pain any more.

Just take one day at a time and before u know it your 2 wks in etc.

I find holding my boob with one hand and feeding her from the top a good position and at night I just lay down with her next to me (both on our side)

I've also got a Hakka pump from amazon and it's fab for getting the excess milk out (wear at the same time as feeding) especially if u have a fast let down.

Honestly in a few weeks it won't hurt xx

@kelly totally agree with the specialist, I'm quite lucky as my friends mum is a bf specialist as well as a Midwive (not a community one) and has been for nearly 20 years.

She just so happened to be on shift the day I had my lg and was the one helping with my section. She made sure ayda was latched properly and also visited me a few times in the first few weeks x
