Fat 1 year old ?

Last night my mom called (live in different states). We got on the topic of DD. My mom asked for some Christmas ideas for DD and I told her that DD could really use some clothes. She asked what sizes and I told her 2T-3T. She then said, "Whenever you send me a picture of the kids, I can't help but notice how big Lily is. She looks as big as a 3 year old! You were tall as a baby, but not fat." I immediately felt like crap. My daughter is not fat. She still has her baby chub, a bit of a belly and big thighs, but she doesn't have rolls for days. She will be 17 months tomorrow and weighs 29.5lbs and is probably around 34-35 inches tall. She's always been above the 95th percentile for height and weight. When laying in bed last night I almost started to tear up. There's nothing wrong with DD. I'm 5'9. DF is 5'11. One of my brothers is 6'5 and the other is 6'2. My mom is 5'9. My moms dad is over 6 feet. DF's dad is close to 6 feet. DD is just a tall girl who happens to still have her baby chub. She's extremely healthy, she eats very well (not picky). No juice, just water and milk. I still feel sad that my mom said that DD is fat though. Makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong ?

I get told by my in-laws that my one year old DS is fat and that there's something wrong with him all the time.

He just turned one and is 40lbs and 35", and the doctors see nothing wrong with his size.

My 2 yr old is 31 lbs and 31 inches, and he's definitely not fat. I think it's super rude when people call babies fat, they're babies! They'll grow into it

Ignore your mom. Your daughter is perfect. She's not fat. Just to show that you can have two genetically similar people and different body types and stages of growth, my two daughters (same father, same genetics) have vastly different body types. Dd1 is 50% for height and 12% for weight. She's tall and slender. She's never broken the 30% for weight. We've always stressed out about her being so skinny but her doctor says she's fine. Dd2 is 95% for height and 80% for weight. But she's not fat. She's normal. She's healthy. She's got more baby rolls than her sister did, but proportionally she looks normal and her doctor says she's just fine. Bodies differ. And their percentiles change as they grow older. Dd2 is 16 months and in 2T. Your baby is totally fine. Don't let your mom get other ideas into your head.

Your baby is not fat!! My 9 month baby weighs 27lbs. Doctors say he is a healthy chubby baby.

My boys are 2 and both are 28.2 lbs and one is 32" the other is 34". You've got a big girl, but that doesn't mean she's fat. She's probably going to be tall and gorgeous no matter what her body shape is. ?

My daughter is two and is 24ish pounds. She's on the opposite side of the spectrum when it comes to hight and weight. She's a skinny mini. Babies aren't meant to be chubby and babies aren't meant to be skinny. There is no set size that babies should be. We are human. Adults come in all different shapes and sizes and so do babies, but sometimes we forget that. For any baby wether they be a skinny mini or a chunky monkey, don't worry about you child's weight, as long as they're on track for their own growth curve and their doctor says they aren't concerned. Your baby is perfect. Don't let your mamas words get you down.

What? Babies are suppose to be chubby. Who doesn't like a chubby baby? All 3 of my kids were fat babies and in the 90-95 percentile range and there is nothing wrong with that. They were all exclusivly breastfed and the Drs all said they were very healthy. They all became in normal range when they got older because of how active they are. You're a good mother who cares about your childs diet and liquid intake. Otherwise you wouldn't have listed it. Sometimes you have to learn how to let the "negative" comments of people roll off of you like water off a duck's back.

Every baby is different. My 19 month old can fit into half of my oldest wardrobe (sizes 2t-4t) and vice versa. I wouldn't worry about it. As long as nothing like that is said in front of your dd. My grandpa always called me fat, straight to my face and always laughed after. It would break my heart especially since i wasn't really fat, just bigger than my cousin's. I believed him for a long time until i had my own daughters and realized a lot. They're kids, they grow at different rates, have their own personalities and everything. No kid should be called fat. Ever. Even if it's true. Nobody should ever put that in a childs head. If my mom called my children fat I would honestly tell her off.

Ok I snooped on your pictures and she looks like she's the same kind of baby as my DD. Healthy! In 1 year or two she'll be taller and you'll wonder where the chub went!

My DD was like that. And now at 3 she's definitely more tall than fat. Some babies have more chub as young toddlers and then loose it when they get taller (not saying your baby is like that since I haven't seen a picture :) ) And even if she's not fat now, she already wears size 5T clothing.

You're doing everything right! Lilly is a beautiful little girl and is perfect in every way! I'm sorry your mom said those hurtful things.

Thanks ladies. And yes, I agree, she was totally out of line. DD's pediatrician has always commented on how DD is perfect. Her height and weight are proportionate and that she's just a tall "lady"..lol. I guess my mom just likes to nitpick my kids at times. She used to tell me that DS was too skinny ( he still is at 9 years old and 50lbs and 48 inches tall). It's like damn mom. I have one really petite kid and another kid that's huge. Can't you just be happy and thankful that they are both healthy and thriving? ?

I was 38 pounds at my one year old medical appointment, so believe me your baby is perfectly fine (and I snooped!) I have a big boy too. At this age (and apart from true medical cases) they are just chubby babies, as long as her pedi isn't worried don't be.

Your mom was out of line, and if she sees your daughter as fat, she is the one with a problem

Your daughters weight and height is the same as my 2 year old nephew. But your mom was out of line nonetheless.

Oh goodness, I always find it silly when people comment on a baby's size. My oldest was chubby, she was always short but super chubby, so I always got the "fat" comments. Now she's tiny, she'll be 3 in December and she weighs 25lbs and is around 33" tall and now I have people talk about how little she is, the same people who used to talk about how fat she was.. My youngest is just small all around she's almost 15 months and still in 9 month clothes, so I get the comments about how tiny she is. People are never happy, if you know she's a happy and healthy one year old then don't let anybody get to you with their ignorant comments.

My heart hurts for you. I would sue the s*** out of those doctors.
So sad and heartbreaking. Brought tears to my eyes. No mother should lose her child so young
