Try to get with a lactation consultant in person to help you get the latch right. Your pediatrician may have one. Also try The First Years Nipple Butter. You can find it at Walmart. It's so much better than lanolin stuff. Also Medela Hydrogel pads. They are costly but worth it.

I cried so hard every time she'd latch on my left boob. But you can always call your Dr to get a number to a consultant. Hopefully the guards work.

I want to look at the nipple shield :) my 2nd boy was tongue tied and they just clipped the underside . The nurse said at the dr today to try to get him upset and open wide before putting in my nipple I wanted to strangle the little wench I didn't like her for my hospital stay either lol. I figured telling the nurse about some issues and she would refer me to a consultant but nope . Guess I'll wait till the next appointment .

What Brandi said forgot to mention. - lip tie is common my niece was born a few weeks back and she had one - super simple snip of the tie and they are better and it's better for you - easy to dx

I had the same issue and I ended up trying to breast feed. Turns out my child did have a lip tie and he's having his surgery in 2 weeks to correct it. He only eats a little at a time and gets very gassy.. Also he has issues latching to a bottle and holding a paci. Have you checked to see if he has one

My daughter did this the first whole week... I had cracking so I bought nipple guards... After a week I'm trying again without them and its so much better... My lactation consultant said that my nipples needed to adjust and she was latching properly.

If you call thr lactation consultant at the hospital they can get you a medicated nipple cream for it. Ide recomend like the previouse poster to youtube to help with a deep latch. Also the earth mama angel baby nipple butter is HEAVEN i really like to use that and the lanolin with the lansinoh nipple soothies...ahhhh feels magnificent lol also, if need be you can always use a nipple shield until your healed.

Sounds like his latch is too shallow - this would cause such extreme pain and also the damage to the nipple - I recommend earth mama angel baby in Lou of the lanolin - by far superior for healing - secondly watch video on you tube - fit pregnancy - deep latch techniques - will illustrate how to achieve the proper latch - this would more than likely explain the reason for quick nursing sessions due to him not getting the right latch in order to nurse and get full - it will get better but you must correct the latch
