So irritated...
For lunch I had a buffalo chicken wrap on a sun dried tomato tortilla with artisan lettuce, tomato, and a drizzle of chipotle ranch dressing and one cutie on the side. I was just at 129 at my 2 hour post check, which is over for me. What the hell could have possibly been wring with that meal?? The one tiny piece of fruit? I'm so over my doctors acting like I eat crap all day when I actually eat really well, so it annoys me when my numbers are over. What am I doing wrong??
The meal you had would have definitely put me over as well. Along with the tortilla, ranch, and cutie which is roughly 45 carbs already, the other items have carbs as well. Artisanal lettuce, tomato, even the sauce they use to flavor the chicken has carbs. The meal may have been close to the max of 60. I agree it can be frustrating and you might not be able to have 45-60 carbs for a meal. My dietician told me the same thing, but after trying different meal combinations and carb counts, I can only handle a max of 30 carbs for lunch and dinner. Breakfast no more than 10-15. Hang in there and once you start to see what spikes your sugar you'll figure it out and become a pro at maintaining your levels.
I hate diabetes. It's the stupidest most irrational thing ever. Eat pepperoni but don't eat fruit! Grrrrrr!!!!!!
Anywho, I'm so sensitive I have to stay under 20 net carbs per meal. And yeah, one wrap could be so high in net carbs, another can be no problem.
So yeah, try to keep your head up and it's all trial and error and then once you get used to it, it'll change again!
(I'm in a bad mood bc I had a similar experience with dinner tonight. So over this!)
It could be there wasn't enough protein. Were you active after you ate? Being sick or stressed can impact your #s. Have you had that kind of tortilla before? Certain foods can spike your #s. I had a high # last week from eating something that should have been fine. It made me so mad. It's one thing if you eat garbage and get a bad # but it's so unfair when you eat something that should be fine.
I can't eat sweet potatoes at all. I can have pizza if i am careful but sweet potatoes make my sugar spike. Bodies tolerate things differently
The diabetic educator said I could have between 45-60 grams for lunch. The tortilla was 34. The ranch was 1. I don't understand what I did wrong to be over. And she recommended I have yogurt as a late night snack; last night I had one Yoplait yogurt and a handful of almonds and my fasting this morning was 121. I'm so frustrated I want to scream. I made a huge change in my diet last year and started eating clean and lost 35 pounds and now it seems like all my hard work wasn't good enough :(
Just wondering how bad is a reading of 129? Is it like darn I missed 120 by a few points or like so bad that medication may be needed if you have several that high?
I'm sorry you're stressed. I get that you're really trying to eat right. I've only tested for about 10 days and have at least 1 reading between 120-130 (2 hours post meal) every couple of days even though I've been very diligent about my diet. I've also never had a fasting number below 100. It's hard.
I agree that it's trial and error in figuring out which foods make you spike, and you may have to eat less than the recommended amount of carbs. Sometimes you just have to eat fruit for snacks and not combine with other carbs.
Your high fasting number this morning could have affected things, too. Fasting numbers are especially hard to control. You'll have to experiment with evening snacks, but perhaps try more protein and less sugar? Illness, stress, and poor sleep can also increase your fasting numbers.
