We supplemented Earths Best. It's an organic formula that doesn't add corn syrup or too much sugar.

I have the madela electric pump and it works great. I apply a steaming wash cloth to my breat and let it sit for a few on each boob then massage my boobs and then I begin pumping and I get about 3 maybe 4 Oz from each boob but I only do one boob at a time for 10 to 15 minutes each boob. We supplemented one bottle of formula today simply because I couldn't keep up with him and he was just crying for more and it broke my heart. But I feel so relieved that there's another option of formula feeding for times like this.

Honestly, I would not supplement at all! Pumping is never how much milk you actually have and are making, baby will be able to get more than any pump will. I exclusively pumped with my son for 4 months and it was so hard to keep up with him because babies can finish off a bottle faster than a boob and they don't feel full until they have drank too much with bottles. So my advice if dr wants to keep track of how much babe is getting do weighed feedings. Weigh baby before and after a feeding, always start baby at breast and pump after if needed and feed baby that if still hungry but leave baby on breast until they unlatch or go into a good sleep the longer they are on the more it will tell your body to produce. Also make sure you are eating enough and drinking enough!! This will help with production

I use the Ameda brand which is awesome in getting all the milk out of my breast. Some days I wake up with breasts as hard as rock melon and the breast pump gets everything out that the breast feels soft again after 30-40mins. With pumping and draining the breasts, my milk supply has increased.

In order to determine how many ounce he's getting, try formula once or twice in his feeding schedule and then return back to breast milk.

Yeah - mine was the insurance free one too. Since you're doing so much pumping, have you looked into trying to rent a hospital grade one or a different brand? I've heard the hospital grade ones are much better

Enfamil makes a supplementing formula.. when I went back to work and got my cycle back around 6 months and my supply dropped and nothing worked to get it back up! At this point.. I would be doing whatever the ped suggests. Also.. you could buy an infant scale and weigh before he begins nursing. I don't think they are that expensive

Yes I have a Medela and I'm not crazy about it. It's the free one from insurance and it barely works lol

I don't know what brand pump you are using, but I had a hard time getting much milk out with my Medela while pumping unless I did one side at a time and used my hands to help massage the breast while the pump was pumping.. if I just let the machine do it, I'd hardly get any milk- where if I helped massage the milk down and out, I'd double my output if not more- just an idea to try! I hated pumping and only did it once a day to build up a freezer backup. I wish you the best!
