Weight Gain
Ro is still not gaining weight. Last Monday we went and from last Monday to today he has only gained 2 ounces so in a week he's only gained 2 ounces.
I would be bottle feeding him ounces (to make sure he is getting a good amount) then latching him right after. That way your body will naturally produce more milk... he will be eating more... you don't have to "give it up".... you are still bonding with him too! That way once you both find your rhythm and he starts gaining you still may have the opportunity to breastfeed exclusively! ❤
Craymond did you pump at night too? How did you make that work?
I ask because my supply is really low at night. Instead of pumping 2-3 oz per side I get less than 1 per side and that doesn't allow for me to have enough pumped for over night feedings.
I thought about continuing to let him nurse at night for convenience since I know for sure he gets fed well throughout the night.
I strictly pumped and bottle fed for the first 4 months with my 1st Lo. He was in the NICU for a month and was too little to get a proper latch. It was annoying since it's a long process- pumping, cleaning the pump parts, setting up for next session, feeding lo (sometime fresh milk if I had just pumped or warming up milk if I still had time between pumping sessions- I pumped on time every 3 hours like clockwork which helped give me a huge supply of milk). Once he was 4 months I got sick of it and decided to try to nurse him normally which took a month of switching ? that's when my period came... ugh.... lmao. I had such an over supply from pumping that when I started nursing my body had to slow down to adjust to what he was actually able to eat- I was engorged for over a month ?
Honestly pumping may help you be able to nurse later on. It'll boost your milk supply and once LO has gained the weight he needs and is a bit older and more alert (not constantly sleeping like a usual infant) then you could try going back to nursing. LO will probably be a better water and have a lot better latch then, and you'll know for sure that you are producing enough milk.
Unfortunately I've already seen two lactation consultants and they both said that his latch is perfect ?. It's been so so frustrating not knowing why he isn't gaining.
You should go see an ibclc. They can do a weighed feeding and see if los latch isn't correct, maybe they aren't emptying the breast bc of latch. For sure something to check out before resorting to formula. Or you may have a slow growing kiddo, as long as they stay on their own growth curve they will be fine
I ep & give Kali breast milk in a bottle. I use the medela app to track how much & how long I pump. At first I was also using it to track her bottle intake. I have used a few oz of similac supplementation when she was cluster feeding & went thru every bit of breast milk I had. My pediatrician had me waking her every two hours to eat until they were satisfied with her weight gain progress

I am only on my 2nd trimester and I gained so much weight! 😭 Can you mommas tell me what’s like a normal weight gain to be expected, please.
doctor app Monday I wonder if I gain some more weight
My OB said I was only supposed to gain between 15-20 pounds with this pregnancy, I guess its because I'm obese because of my height. :/ I'm 5'4" and started out weighing 194 now I'm at 32 weeks and weigh 222.8 they griped about my weight before and then I wasn't gaining anything because its been difficult for me to gain with this pregnancy and now they're griping because I only gained 2 ounces in the last 2 weeks. All the weight I've gained is in my boobs and butt, my bump isn't even big. Maybe ...
How much weight has everyone gained? I'm at 31lbs at 30 weeks.
Thank you Marilyn
It's been tough but I'm still breastfeeding. I just can't not do it. I was so upset and he was upset wanting comforting so I let him nurse last night and he was so much happier and so was I.
But I'm still doing mostly bottle and have done a little more formula.
