how to stop thumb sucking

I hope op hasn't gotten her to stop yet. I think that's too young to try to break that habit.

Anyone look at the date of this...?

I'm gonna be the oddball an say stop as early as you can. I'm still working on getting my almost 6 year old to stop sucking her fingers. She's sucked them constantly since she was a baby and we've tried everything. Tried the bitter nail stuff, tried putting one of those brace things on her hand to block it. She just can't help it. Nip it while you can, lol.

Try finding ways to stop now I still suck my thumb and I'm a mom wife and almost 20

Years old I hide it from my husband it's embarrassing but it's a comfort thing for me. Wish I could stop lol Goodluck !!!

My son has sucked his thumb since he was in the womb. Lol. He's now 2.5 and he sucks his thumb when he's tired and to fall asleep. Idk what to do about it because his thumb looks terrible!

My Dd sucks her thumb, but only when she's sleeping. Poor thing gets eczema right around the base of it. Today her whole thumb looked dry and her knuckle was cracked, so I put neosporin and vaseline on it and put a sock over her hand. Then I spent the next hour giggling at her trying to pick things up. Her thumb looks much better and she wasn't able to suck it. If your lo is like my Dd and just sucks it at nap time/night you could try a sock. I wouldn't worry about it too much though.

A lot of the time they stop on their own. It's a self soothing mechanism. Kids go through phases on what soothes them.

My dd sucked on her fingers for a while. Then she started rubbing the seams on the inside collar of her shirt while she drank water or milk, then she got attached to toys that soothed her, right now (she's 2 now) it's the blanket she sleeps with. She has to have it at night and whenever she needs a lot of comfort.

But I wouldn't worry too much. She'll likely find a different soothing means on her own. After all, it's not like you see 30 year olds still sucking their thumbs.

You could try to give her other things to try to soothe. She'll need some way to soothe though.

My Grama said put hot sauce or dish soap on their thumbs after a few times she said her kids learned its yucky

My 19 month old learned to love his thumb at six months but by 19 months I'll just remind him "no thumbs baby" help whine then take it out if his mouth

They make bitter nail polish especially for that.

Don't let it go on too long. My sister sucked her thumb for years, and ended up with a gap in her teeth.

Idk for 8 months old or ds tried to suck his thumb for the longest and we kept taking his thumb from his mouth saying no. He doesn't suck his thumb anymore... I sucked my thumb for a very long time and my teeth are my worst feature to my body :/ I want something done to them lol my plastic surgery :))

I sucked my thumb until I was 12. My parents tried everything. I honestly miss it sometimes. Lol there was even a song about me at school. For the record, it didn't effect my teeth at all but I'm sure it does some people.

I wouldn't worry about it right now. It's comfort for her and she will not understand if you try to break her away from her comfort object. My sister and I were major thumb suckers until we were 3/4 and our teeth are fine.
