Explain ?
I had my 39 week appointment today. Last week I was nowhere. Her head was just low. This week I am 2.5 centimeters dilated and 50% effaced. I had to go for a stress test due to movement concerns. Everything is okay. They said i am having contractions. I had about 6 contractions while on the monitor (about 30 minutes). I know they aren't strong or lasting long enough but what does this mean? Are they just Braxton hicks or are they real? This probably sounds so stupid to some of you I just have no idea what anything means and my doctor would not explain s*** to me
I'm not sure about nst wise stuff, but with my first i was induced and felt no contractions, in active labor, for like 3 or 4 hours. My water had been broken already too. So they might being real legit contractions you probably just can't feel them yet. I'm clueless on what real contractions feel like. I've had crampy pains and back pain, belly tightening, poop feelings. But its been random and not too painful. I don't even bring it up to my dr because they brush everything off as normal or whatever.
An NST measures the heartbeat of the baby and will register contractions if you are having them. As far as being dilated 2.5cm (cervix is opening) and 50% effaced (length of cervix is getting shorter)...the contractions you are having while mild are clearly preparing your body for delivery. It could still take some time to get fully dilated (10cm) and effaced. I've been at a 1 for 3 weeks. Eventually your contractions will get more consistent and stronger.
