The futon from hell.
The futon from hell.
The futon from hell.
Sell it or give it away and tell the in laws a family member was in need of some furniture so you let them borrow it?

I told my husband last night that it's not going inside. If he wants to store it in the garage that's fine, if he wants to sell it, donate it n or trash it that's fine too. But it's not staying in here and he can handle his family
Can you put it in the garage?
Or...just say it broke.
Or be honest! Tell them you just don't have space because baby needs a nursery.
The inner mechanism finally gave out! Ah darn, you guys are going to miss that that cozy futon. ?
It's your house and your hated futon, so what his parents or your parents think is irrelevant. Why would you clutter your house unnecessarily to "save face?" If they ask, explain you had no room for it anymore, how they choose to react is not on you.
If you could fit both I'd say it might be a real convenience. If you can't, get rid of it. I wouldn't expect someone to keep something I got them forever.
If it were keeping me from giving my baby a nursery, I would sell it. You used it for four years. They need to be understanding that you want to give your baby a nice room and you have no space for the futon. Tell them you gave it to a family in need.
They would totally ubderstand you selling t to make room on the nursery and use the money to buy baby furniture, job done and they will think they contributed to nursery in a round about way too ?
Seriously? So since it's a gift you have to keep it forever? Maybe you're just building it up in your mind about how they would react. Either way, I'd tell them "we just don't have room for it anymore. Do you want it or should we give it to someone in need?"
Maybe put it in a storage shed, then tell them that, fish around if they want it. Then sell it.

It's 4 years old. In the way of futons, it's really nice. We've gotten 4 years of use out of it. My husband slept on it for a week after our son was born and I couldn't get in bed after my c-section.
Even my parents say I should keep it to save face. They think it'll fit in my dining room ?
I would tell them you don't have room for it and ask if they want to keep it at their house, if they don't I would post it on the online yard sale page or give it away. Why would it matter if they got mad? That's a ridiculous thing to get mad over.
It's a futon, not a piece of heirloom jewelry.
If they'd have that big of a problem with it then give it back to them to keep. I can't imagine keeping a crappy piece of furniture and not setting up my baby's room, if I even had the luxury of having one, just to not hurt their feelings.
This has been years right?
I think it's good in the nursery for the first few months especially when baby wakes up every couple hours
Then after that I would sell it because it looks really nice
That's just me tho
I agree with Nancy.
Just get rid of it. If they question it, say you no longer had room for it. Plain and simple.
When we were having our second son, my MIL (hubby's stepmom)gave me an old rocking chair that she garbage picked and painted with white wall paint and put a blue cushion on. I kept it for a while to amuse her, but recently asked hubby to throw that facking thing out. Lol
I'd tell them they can have it, otherwise you're getting rid of it. Giant pieces of furniture should never be given as gifts, that's very rude of them to expect you to keep it forever

Getting rid of it would be good big thing with my in laws.

Umm...it's your house, why are you crying over someone being nice and giving you something that they thought you could use years ago?? It served its purpose and now it has none, say that and do what you need to do for your house.
