gastrointestinal issues
So the theory is that feeding solids to early can cause stomach issues.
Anecdotally, my mother started me on solids at approx 4 months (the recommendation at the time). At 31 years old I have no known allergies (food or otherwise), no gastrointestinal issues at all, am not overweight, nor do I have any other unrelated health issues.
I am practically perfect in every way. ?
Recommendations were to start solids around 4-6 months for me and all of my siblings. Of the 5 of us, I'm the only one who is overweight (which I wasn't as a child) and none of us have any stomach problems.
I still can't find any evidence that feeding children food early results in long term stomach problems. I've only been able to find studies that state that the gut bacteria between ff and bf babies differs, but it's unclear what the long term effects are. Could you guys share the studies that you are reading where you find this information?
Dang I didn't know that.
My husband was fed eggs and chorizo by his gma at around 3 months. From then on he was eating menudo and things of the sort before he was 9 months old.
He always suffered weight issues but now that he is older his weight doesn't really affect him and he controls it easily BUT this guy has severe stomach issues.
Every single time he eats he burps a lot and throws up in his mouth a lot and has stomach aches.
He is lactose intolerant but has the same symptoms with ANYTHING he eats. He always has to poo and says everything effs his stomach up.
At first I thought stomach ulcer and then just severe acid reflux and now idk. And he avoids the doctor like the plague. But I'll bet money it's because he was fed solids so dang early cause his gma passed away before his sisters were born and they don't have any of those issues.
My mom fed me at 2 months old ? I'm awesome with all foods, no allergies what so ever.
My MIL was fed evaporated milk and not formula right out the womb, she's fine and no allergies or stomach probs.
My MIL fed my Dh mashed bananas and 1 cracked egg/a little sugar in it when he was 3 months old every morning, he's fine with no issues.
My mom has 4 children and fed us all rice cereal within a few weeks to help us sleep better. I have mild ibs that didn't show up until my late 20s, my oldest brother has had GI issues from early childhood that got so bad that he's been hospitalized countless times and nearly lost his life because he was too embarrassed to say he couldn't poop for an extended period of time. He had to undergo several surgeries and now has a colostomy bag for life (he just turned 22) and my other 2 brothers have no issues.
I have 2 friends who have a 3 and 5 month old who have been feeding their LO baby food already. They claim their dr gave them the ok since their LO eats so much. ?
Anyways, I'm not sure when I was started on solids, but I do know I had cereal bottles as I had terrible reflux, apparently every time I ate, if you moved me, I'd vomit everywhere no matter if I ate 1oz or 6oz. I still suffer from reflux, but nothing else.
I find it interesting how a lot of people on here comment "no issues here" or "I was fed cereal at 3 mos. and I'm alright ", yet the obesity rate is so high and more and more people DO report GI issues such as IBS . Do these statistics somehow not apply to the BB world ?
Ps not calling anybody out but it just doesn't add up in my head
I have IBS with diarrhea and it is debilitating. I am unable to just go out, because an attack can happen at any moment. Attacks consists of horrible stomach aches, pain, nausea and I'm unable to leave the bathroom for hours.
Which causes endless anxiety and makes my symptoms worse.
I was given rice cereal at 2 weeks old because I had too big of an appetite. My mother nursed me but could not keep up, so my pediatrician recommended rice cereal and formula to help satisfy me.
I honestly believe that giving me rice cereal at such a young age causes me such severe stomach issues. That's why I ignore everyone who tells me to give my daughter rice cereal to help her sleep through the night. She's almost 3 weeks old, she's not supposed to sleep through the night.
