How necessary do you believe it is for grandparents to have alone time with grandchildren?

Necessary? No.

It is a good thing, though, for more than one reason. Not only does it let them bond better IMO, it also gives you some down time. Both of my parents have taken my 15 month old for 2-3 hours at a time and it was a good experience all around.

This is only if you trust the grandparents, of course. Not only has my mil not had alone time, she has only seen dd twice in her life, even though she only lives an hour away.

My mil wants us to go out so she can have alone time with our son, not so we can have alone time together

In my family it's absolutely necessary. My great grandparents raised me & we are all very close. We also live two blocks away, so that helps!

idk why but anytime I hear of a grandparent, anyone but bio parents, talking about wanting alone time with new baby I get creeped out. I know it's irrational. but why do they feel like being alone with baby is necessary? you don't have to be alone to form a bond.

Lol why does she sound like my mil and her "uninterrupted time"?

I hate leaving my ds for any reason. Unless dh and I are going on a date (which has happened twice) or if I'm going to school.

I don't like keeping them from each other, but I definitely don't think they "need" alone time. It annoys me of the thought of my mil feeling so entitled.

He's 13 mo

And I hover buy I do things a mom should do. She's obsessed with being allowed to change his diaper. I don't let her after she commented on how his penis compared to my husband's.

Omgggg she even compares him to your husband?!?!?

Holy crap. Her name isn't Sonya, is it? Lol

Not necessary but my son spends a lot of time with both of his grandma's and he loves being around them.

NO ALONE TIME FOR HER! If you have a weird feeling about it, and it definitely sounds like you have probable cause, I say listen to it. She sounds... weird.

I think the answer depends on the grandparents. I wouldn't leave my kids alone in the living room w my parents while I went to the bathroom. But my in laws are amazing people who have a lot to offer my kids. I think my kids can learn a lot from my in law's generation. In general, I think multi generational relationships are important. I also believe the more the merrier when it comes to relatives having close relationships w my kids. My DS is 3 and is very close my mil. She occasionally picks him up from school and takes him out to lunch. It's a very special bonding time for them and love seeing their relationship grow. It also gives me comfort that if anything were to happen to me or DH, mil knows everything about my kids and they trust and love her completely.

After reading your comments I wouldn't leave him alone with her. Might not be as weird as it seems but I would definitely be uncomfortable.

That is weird!!! I don't think I will have a problem with my parents or in laws, but I always see people on here saying the grandparents want alone time with the kids and I kind of find that strange to ask to want to be alone. It would make me feel like they want to do something that I would not be ok with!

I guess I missed the "alone" part. I just meant spending time in general.

Anyone asking for alone time with my baby would be odd.
