stupid advice

My MIL's latest advice is when a child falls down "if there's no blood, let them scream. They'll only scream if you react to them falling." Really lady? I know babies feed off of reactions which is why I wait to scoop him up when he falls or react to them until he does. But if he starts screaming, best believe I'm going to comfort him. He can hurt even if I don't react to him.

This sounds kinda "old school" but I dont agree with it either..Man when I stub my toe I feel like wailing like a baby too and its not for attention its because it effin hurts! Babies do learn to manipulate yes but that aslo doesnt mean they dont need comfort..

I get what she's saying. She's just saying it really poorly.

I don't rush over every time my lo bopped into something or fell down. He escalates his crying when he sees me hurry over and it just works him up more.

No, they scream if it really hurts.

When they stop and look at you for your reaction first, then you know that they're okay.

Yeah, like I said I wait to react or ill smile at him and say "uhoh" but if he cries, I'm getting him. She literally means as long as you don't see blood just ignore the kid completely

If my baby does the little whimper cry then I'm sure they're fine.

If my child is screaming ... I'm not going to just sit there. Just because there is no blood doesn't mean they're not hurt.

I have three kids and they do scream worse when you run over. You need to teach them independence. They will come to you for comfort. But letting them scream like a banshee over a tiny scrape will be a problem in the long run.

My 9 yo is a screamer. He full out screams blue murder every time he gets hurt. No matter how big or small. Like he stubbs his toe and you think he's bleeding out his eyeballs the way he sounds. It's a serious pain in the ass to break the habit.

I've just decided to not take anyone's advice except my mother's, and that's only because 1. She will only give it if I ask for it and 2. She has done the research instead of going off of other people/personal opinions. Everyone else can just hush

In response to your question in particular,. I feel that children need to be picked up and comfortEd. At least to check out any damage and let them know someone looking out for them.

I'm a strong believer in letting your little one learn how to take care of little problems on their own. If my son falls down and starts to cry and I have no reason to believe he is actually hurt I won't run to him. I think he'll need to learn that he's not hurt and can handle it himself. For example. If he falls down while walking on a padded surface he's obviously not going to be hurt and need much care. Now if he falls off the sofa that's a different story. But everyone has their own parenting style. Just ignore unwanted advice. Most of the time it's given with kindness in mind.

My 2 yo dd has recently started saying "I'm okay. I'm okay" when she falls.

It's the cutest thing! I not sure if she's trying to tell us or convince herself!

Usually, I'll just ask "are you okay" from wherever I am if I see her fall. She will say yes and pick herself back up or cry if she is really hurt, then I know to go get her.

Since we don't rush to her for every little fall or bump, she has learned to pick herself up and brush herself off (also cute!).

But if it's serious, of course we pick her up to comfort or tend to her booboos.

I try to talk her through the pain and say things like "scraping your knee hurts, doesn't it? Do you feel the pain starting to lessen at all? Little by little it will get better." Then I let her pick out a bandaid if needed. And kiss it better.

I'm surprised she's not more dramatic about being hurt, since she can be a bit of a drama queen, but I think it's how we've reacted and she's learned from it.

Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no, his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me and did something else with an other girl.... and it's 10:51 am now and he hasn't texted me at all. and after he dropped me off I texted him saying what I felt and nothing. I don't know if I'm over reacting or what or what should i do. do i wait until he text me?

Would you consider this cheating? What would you do

Would you consider this cheating? What would you do I need advice from a neutral stand point. Genuine advice of what you would do. Ds had his tonsils out last night. For some reason my gut about dh was not good. At night I logged into his Snapchat and saw he was talking to an old friend who he had a thing with. Last thing I was able to see was him saying it was hard to not log into those pictures and she then said she couldn't answer the phone because she was with her husband. I texted dh and asked what pictures was it so hard for him to not look at and I guess he called her and they talked. And she supposedly came clean to me and said they would just talk and vent about what stresses them. Dh said the same thing and I guess the pictures were of them from a long time ago of them and other friends hanging out. Dh started crying saying he never meant anything that everything looked like the perfect crime but that there was nothing there. I have since kept my distance and told him to give me space. At the moment I don't want to see him. I believe what they said but I'm so hurt and I don't want to be the stupid person to believe everything.
