cracked nipples
I know most of you have been through this or already asked this question but I've been trying to breastfeed and OMG it hurts so much!!! Both of my nipples are bruised. I put the lanolin on them afterward and I know it's prob from her not latching well. But what do I do??? Nurse has already tried to help but the pinching hurts so bad!!
@enel this morning when she was nursing, blood was coming out so I decided to stop nursing until they heal. I've been pumping and giving her the milk. I'm going to work on getting them healed all day then try to relatch her. I hope it works bc it's so painful!!!
As a last resort, you could always express for 12-24 hours. I gave myself a night off and by morning they had healed enough to spend the time improving my latch... As it sometimes took 10 times of putting her on and un-latching her... Which was normally very painful, but my nipples could handle it so much better after a rest. It definitely saved my breastfeeding it it was perfect a few days after that x
Thanks ladies. It's very painful still even with the nipple shield they gave me. I'm just still nursing through the pain.
@loveyabud is that the one in the brown container? My cousin gave me some of her things when she stopped breastfeeding. I will try anything to get them to heal!!
I was having the same problem. Motherlove nipple cream was my savior and trust me I notice when i forget to put it on for too long. I also try to massage my breast to make the milk easier to get at. My daughter has bruised me a few times so i feel your pain. Just some things that have really helped me.
Our pediatrician is very pro breastfeeding and when we were talking about it he asked a lot of questions. He asked what I would be using for cracked nipples and I told him I planned on using coconut oil. He said that was fine and then told me not to wipe the breastmilk off my nipples after he feeds. Abel is 2 weeks old and my nipples haven’t cracked at all yet. It does hurt when he first latches but once he gets his groove it doesn’t hurt at all.
Thanks ladies!! I didn't know about the aloe vera. I'll try to find a plant and see if that'll work for me. I'm in excruciating pain but I know I have to nurse through it so it can heal And keep up my milk
The pain will last about a week until your nipples heal. Mine were bad this time around and what helped was aloe vera. I would cut one open and apply the gel on my nipples and let it dry. I did have to clean it off with warm water before every feeding but my nipples finally healed with it.
@luvyabud I'll definitely look it up. Thank you!!
