Its very natural between the ages of 9 and 15 months as they are learning about gravity and how thing work. They are discovering how things fall etc. its very annoying but to them its discovering something new

Dd does it all the time! She just likes watching it fall! And yeah ignoring might work... But it doesn't for my dd... The only time I react is when we are out In public Because once it falls she can't eat it.

My SIL stopped using a high chair for her son at about 18months for this reason!

I agree with kikismum. I'd ignore the throwing completely but replace it with a new, more desirable behaviour. So teach her to hand you the food when she's finished with it instead of throwing it. Lots of fuss, clapping and praise for handing you the food and no response for throwing the food. You might have to intercept food that's being thrown at first, just intercept it, loads of praise and she'll get the idea fairly quickly - the 'new game' becomes handing you the food and throwing it becomes boring because it gets no response. Eventually, when it becomes more of a habit, you will be able to tone down the response to handing you the food to a simple thank you.

She'll still throw it once every now and again to test whether that gets a response but for the most part she'll hand you the food.

If you do this though you have to be prepared to always accept and praise being given soggy half-chewed food! Delish!!

My dd is 12 months and has been doing this for months!

The best thing to do, is ignore the behaviour. She's looking for a reaction an even a negative reaction is fun to her.

When she throws is, pick it up and just walk away, don't look at her. She'll realise she's not getting what she wants and stop.

Not much you can do besides sayin NO in a strong voice and if she does it again take it away from her..

We had this alot in kindy and theres really not much besides sayin No and maybe offer it later.
