Swimming with baby - how old?

I forgot to ask at my lo's 6-8 week checkup. Has anyone asked their dr how old bub should be before taking them swimming at a public pool? My lo is 2 months and we'd love to start taking her swimming soon!

Maternal health nurse said family pool 3 months public pool 6 months. But we took (hubby wanted to) at 4 months and he was so over whelmed (school holidays mind you!) and only lasted 15 mins so I dont really see the point but he did sleep for 2 hours!! Lol pain I think cos then you have to bath or shower him as well due to the chlorine.

I don't know the medically approved answer but if I have to guess I'd wait until they've had their first vaccinations as some pools can be a little festy :)

If you find out what a doctor says let us know. I'm a water baby and I'm so excited about the whole swimming with baby part!!!

Thanks everyone. I didn't mean for lessons as such, have just heard not to take bub swimming too early due to possible infections etc. I guess if lessons actually start from 3 months it can't be too big a deal!

You can take them swimming whenever, but I think lessons with aust swim only take from either 3 or 6 months.
